huh ? freeware means free, unless 'free' is some sort of brand name.

Be more specific. What sort of video ? From what type to what type ?

avi is a container. The codec used determines the content of the avi file, and the bitrate determines the size. Install the Xvid codec and output direct from pinnacle to xvid. Use Vcalc to calculate the correct bitrate.

  5. You probably already have Windows Movie Maker. Good for making WMV files. Or use VirtaulDub to make Divx or Xvid AVI files.

If you can output as xvid, why use vdub ? It just means an extra re-encode and a new tool to learn for no reason.
