  1. We are trying to create what amounts to an eDVD that has links in the title menu that can be used to access specific URLs when the DVD is played on a computer. So far I have only been able to find Mac based products that purport to do the job (ie. Sonic Fusion and Sonic DVD Creator); however I need find a solution that is PC based. Does anyone know of a DVD authoring product that will work. Nothing too fancy, nor overly expensive (ie >$400).

  2. I found one a while back, I can't remember the name of it. It basically put a "button" on screen like Visit our site and it directed you to where ever but if you "explore" the DVD thru windows it was just a regular windows "big blue E" icon with the website name. Don't know exactly how it did it but I'll try and find it for ya. It was actually free. It was on some HTML How-to site.

  3. Thanks 808 Smokey i appreciate any help you can provide. It just seems odd to me that with the increasing number of "enhanced DVDs and CDs" that are starting to be produced commercially there wouldn't be an off the shelf authoring tool that has this feature. I'm really not looking for anything fancy, just an ability to add a web link on the main DVD menu screen.

  4. This is not currently part of the DVD spec. The only way I hav seen it done is using a custom player app launched using Windows autorun feature (or by the user) and this can have any capabilities the designer wants including embedded web links.

I believe SpruceUp can do something with URL links either in menus or launching a browser at start up. I haven't used this function but I've seen it as an option.

  6. ARRGGH! Yes, Spruce Up has exactly what I'm looking for. Just downloaded the demo and sure enough I can imbed simple URl links. Only problem is that I can't buy the product and can't unlock/register the demo for use beyond the two test screens (with watermarking) I cut.

Is there anything else out there? So close, yet so far.

look in the tools section -- there is still a web page up for unlocking the demo - up to a while ago it still works (legal) ..

maestro also has this function but gets you no further ahead ...

why dont you make up a project in spruce up and exam. it with infoedit and then you can create your own .. possably ..

apple's dvd pro also has this function i believe ..

In addition to BJ_M's suggestions, you can keep an eye on ebay for SpruceUp. Typically it is sold as part of video hardware package, but some sellers will sell SpruceUp separately.

After a lengthy testing period on a demo version, I was finally able to buy SpruceUp on ebay for $100 from someone who acquired it as part of an HP multimedia upgrade package. The SpruceUp registration site worked fine for me with a legit copy.
