How to Back up episodic DVD9 with fewer episodes on DVD-R single layer

Hi Firewire60,

DVDFab Platinum to rip menus and only the desired episodes.

Then DVDRemake Pro to correct any broken links to non-existent episodes or to remove any unwanted material. This will address your "Can i get an original looking menu to match the two episodes of the series instead of three" question.

If it's still too big, only then would you use DVDShrink to get it to fit.

Repeat for episode(s) not chosen first time around...

Don't know on that one - sorry. I've never tried it. Try it yourself with re-writeable discs - you'll learn something new and it won't take long.

I'm not trying to avoid helping you, but I'd end up reproducing what's in the user manual and also what's on the DVDRemake Pro website - and I'm sure they'll word it better than I do. So I'll refer you to them - that's how I figured it out, so it's definitely possible!

The DVDRemake Pro forum would also be agood place to search / post.

I learnt by playing with DVDRemake Pro, particularly by following the "Open Destination" (right click on a menu link) function from menus and looking at what the pre- and post- commandswere to figure out what was going on, and then changing it to as I needed it.

The menus you see in the 2nd pic are from a wedding video I did for a friend. I prepared the pic in Photoshop and then imported it into DVDLab Pro during authoring.

The menu images (especially the main menu) is made up of a number of layers, one of which adds the brightness you're after. I have to dash out now, but will come back to this with more detailed info on how I did it in Photoshop.

Do you know if the nero 7 suite will do any of this.
I find that with the things Nero suite will do such as using Nero Vision to combine episodes , create a menu and save to hard disk as VOB files are easy to do as it involves simple choices from menus.

By the way I can successfully remove episodes from a DVD using DVDFab Platinum and combine them two episodes to a disk with menu with Nero and save as VOB files to hard disk, shrink with DVD Shrink and burn to DVD-R with nero Rom and resulting DVD plays OK in a DVD Player with menu allowing choice of episode to play etc. Only problem is it is Nero menu and not original menu.

Thanks for any tips. I basically need a more automated way of doing it. Can Nero do it.

I don't know Nero 7 and, as I have DVDRemake Pro and have played with it enough to learn enough for what I want to do, that's the only suggestion I can make. Sorry...

Hi - Sorry it's taken a while to get back... OK, here's an explanation of how I did the main menu (the brightest one):

The whole image is made up of a number of layers for different things, one each for: large rings in the background, small rings in the bottom left, the horizontal and vertical stripes, the words, boxes around words, and the overall bright layer.

I've supplied a series of images, and named the accordingly, so you can see how the final effect is built up:

Note: These images are average quality JPGs - the originals are stored in Photoshop as layers, not JPGs, and saved as a PSD file to preserve quality. The rings were originally a TGA file that came with Premiere Pro.
