  1. I use DVD Shrink 3.2 from time to time and the program works very nice.

I noticed 3 month ago that DVD Shrink had lost the sound in the preview window.

And now last week when DVD Shrink open a disc, disk image or open files,
after about 10-15 sec the program shuts down/crashes.

    What can it be ?
Can it be a codec or a program that I have installed that DVD Shrink don't like

I have added the log file that DrWtsn32 produces,
if that can be of any help.

What are you doing when it crashes ?

    Are you :

Ripping a DVD ? If so, what ?
Are you reading from the HDD ? If so, what did you rip with ?
    Read my blog here.

Ripping from a DVD, it don't matter what disc I try (I use AnyDVD with DVD Shrink) it crashes.

Reading fro the HDD, I usually use AnyDVD or DVDFab decrypter to rip a disc (and use sometimes FixVTS)

It crashes when it tries to read a ISO file.

I would suspect an audio codec problem. I had a similar problem. If I tried to open a DVD in Shrink, it would immediately crash. If I unchecked 'Enable video and audio preview' in preferences it would work fine, but no preview.

I traced mine down to the Aud-X codec I had installed. Probably not the codecs fault, but more likely something I had done. I see from your DrWatson file the same codec listed, "(000000001c400000 - 000000001c4f6000: C:\WINDOWS\system32\.audxdshow.ax"

Try uninstalling Aud-X and see if that fixes the crashes. I see there is a newer version of Aud-X available anyway. I get no audio preview anyway, but I never used it so I'm not sure if it worked before.

  5. Thank you for posting this, I was wondering why DVDshrink loose the audio in preview ? It happened after I let WMV9 codec get installed from the web.

    I uninstalled Aud-X,
    and DVD Shink still crashed.
I then looked in the System32 folder, and saw that "audxdshow.ax" was still there,
I deleted that sucker. And now DVD Shrink work again

    Thank you for the help

I also think I know now why my sound was gone in the preview window
I saw it was set on "Stereo", I changed it to 5:1 sound and the sound came back (at least on the movie I tested on).

Interesting. I will link this post to the recent Aud-X post by the authors and maybe their software people can give an answer.

  9. this is purely speculation, but my best guess on this is that it's got something to do with the way aud-x decodes audio....i know at least with the first release or two, it also did deal with ac3 audio and attempted to decode that..........may be worth trying the newest release though, since i dont think they have it set to decode ac3 audio anymore, and i believe you can also turn off the decoding at will..........hopefully they will take a bit deeper of a look into it, if it's not already fixed..

whitejremiah, that's what I suspect also. I have the newer version installed, but I can't reboot to test it properly at present as I am running a program and can't see if the newer version works.

I see on the AUD-X site, this:
Before Aud-X installation go to Start-> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs and uninstall AC3ACM codec (if it is present)

Go to C:WINDOWS\system32 and check if AC3ACM.acm file is still there. If it is - manually delete the file.
That makes me think it's just a minor problem, as I'm fairly sure I have the AC3ACM codec installed. In my case, I didn't read the above quote before I installed, so that's why I mentioned it's probably not the fault of the AUD-X codec.

    Hi All,
I am sorry for all the problems caused by our codec.
Indeed there were several problems with the first releases.
Now, you do not have to uninstall anything (i.e. AC3ACM).

Please try to use the newest version (1.2)
If you will have problems with it, there is no need for uninstalling it,
because in the CONFIG TAB you can disable the codec at will, and it should help in any case.
You will be able to turn it on, whenever needed (e.g. for DPLII post processing/decoding,
Pseudosurround simulations, or for decoding aud-x stream)

    Thank you.

OK, I think that the problems that you described should be gone in this version (v1.21).
