  3. What do you expect, when they go backwards in the timeline. We should br going forwards in the Star Trek timeline. Kirk and Spock are old news.

So you didn't click on the link then ?

The DVD release with 3 hours of extra footage sounds like a winner.

As for going forward - with no TV series to support it, what would they go forward with ? Who would go to a Star Trek movie that has completely new characters and no viewer history ? Major ask for a fan base as insanely loyal as Star Trek's.

I agree, but the franchise doomed itself when they decided to come up with Star Trek Enterprise. It was a boneheaded move, IMHO. They should be going forwards.

    As for the video,

Going back to Enterprise is not what doomed the franchise. The "change of style" on UPN is what doomed the network. Going back to reveal the origins of the UFP was a good concept, (though we may argue about how well that was executed) as it was displaying a bit of "future history" without damaging the characters that the fans have come to know and love over the years. Introducing younger versions of iconic characters who's relative ages wouldn't have put them at the academy at the same time, but somehow finding them all there doesn't make any sense. But not having seen the movie yet, I'll reserve judgment on how they make that plausible.

I actually thought the franchise jumped the shark with Voyager. It started off well but then it just wandered about too much. And is it just me or were they really reaching in that series to keep racial diversity among the bridge crew (and I don't mean alien races)?

I could tolerate DS9 pretty well because it had a great cast and a completely different concept: staying still. It became a lot more about politics and ongoing crises instead of going out and finding/stumbling upon the next adventure.

Enterprise was OK but I think it could have done with much better writing and less time travel. The original series was campy but it just seems so classic now when looking back at those episodes. Next Generation was probably the best of the lot if only because it had such unique writing in nearly every episode.

Unsure when I'll get out to see the new movie. I think I'm only interested in it to see Simon Pegg as Scotty.

The first attempt at a Star Trek Prequel was done in the 90's but was never finished. Here's a clip.

edit - Okay stupid Viacom had the damn vid taken down from youtube. It's a stupid f-ing 2 minute cartoon spoof of the new movie and they had it removed. Yes it was done by comedy central and no I don't have the rights to it but come on. It's not like I was making money on it or something. I just uploaded it to youtube so that I could embed the damn thing here. Damn you can take some things way to freaking far. Anyways if you want to see the video you can watch it from a h264 flv version done courtesy of lord smurf here

    yeah,

No wonder youtube is going down.. no viewers.. cause they keep pulling down every vid posted. Its just like what they are doing to many websites, like doom9, if you're on a company run internet, they use the government red book list and ban (filter) you out so no one can view/post at those sites. In my company, I can't get to doom9 but then, they are many others I can't get too either. Youtube is another banned site from my co's reb book list. Anyway. That's why I don't bother with youtube anymore, not since over a year ago now.

I use a dynamic DNS service to redirect to one my internet VMs at home for all of my surfing at work. I know they can track which sites I visit on my work computer but they can't track what I'm viewing over an SSL RDP connection. It even does a surprisingly good job with video content.

while shopping around today, I saw a few previews of the movie. Totaly offline, nothing like the other start trek movies. Seem to me, that all they did was sex it up, and in a hurry to get it all out in theaters. I think I'll pass on this one--not go to the theaters that is. This time the review was spot on.
