I have ripped my DVD using DVD fab, I now want to burn these DVD files onto a blank disc. What I want to know is, I already have the DVD files ready to make a DVD Video disc , when I burn them onto a blank disc, will my DVD files (.VOB) be converted or will they remain untouched and only written onto a blank disc?

No further conversion will be performed. They'll be burned as is, which is what you want.

Yes, as long as you drop in the entire VIDEO_TS folder (which contains all the necessary vobs, bup, and ifo files). There are ImgBurn guides/tutorials. Read them.

Of course if your blank dvd is just a dvd5 (single layer) then there is a whole different way of doing things...

Everyone here is assuming you are using dual layer dvd9 blank media.

DVDShrink can get the movie to fit on a single-layer DVD. It is in the Tools section. In its Reauthor mode, you can cut out unneeded extras, so less compression is required for the main movie. It will create a new VIDEO_TS folder that can be burned to disc using ImgBurn.

from what I read and saw in these tutorials is that img burn will make my DVD an image file, but will this be compatible on DVD players and the PS3?

Yes, there are far fewer complaints of incompatibility with discs burned from image files than with discs burned from VIDEO_TS folders although I haven't had any such problems myself.

In the past ImgBurn would only burn from an ISO, so you had to create an ISO from your VIDEO_TS folders first, (which could also be done in ImgBurn). Some of the guides were written during this period. The program has been updated to allow you to burn from the files without creating the ISO first. There is no difference in the end result, but some people stubbornly cling to the old method because that's the way they've always done it and they know it works.

I just want to clarify that ISO compresses the file size, not the data inside (like rar), yes?

No, ISO is simply a container to hold multiple files and their original file structure. It is not a compressor.

I burned the DVD files using this method:

    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/burn_dvd_folder_imgburn.cfm

I used DVD Shrink to get the main title and used img burn to burn it onto disc, however, the end product isn't at image file on the disc, its the original AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders and they work.

It is both an image file and AUDIO_TS plus VIDEO_TS folders, depending on which application you use to read it!

yes, but when I put the disc into my PC drive, I go to:

my computer>dvdrwdrive>rightclick>explore and the files/folders in there are AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS, I thought because I used img burn, there would only be one files in there, an .ISO file.

Plus, when using img burn, I selected "write files/folders to disc", this may of been the reason, but I thought, it would have converted my AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS into an .ISO file.

It sounds as if you have burned the folders as a data disc instead of a DVD video?

Yes. If it had burned the ISO as a single data file to the DVD then no DVD player would be able to play it. The point of the ISO is to take the multiple files and folders that make up a disc, and put it all into a single file on the hard drive. This makes it easy to transfer/transport while being assured nothing gets overlooked. The process is then reversed when burned back to another disc.

Edit: I just quickly scanned the guide you used and it looks like it doesn't make an ISO. It just shows you how to burn the files/folders directly to the disc.

I have a problem, I have a DVD with 20minute episodes on each disc, the disk I am copying from is a DL, but I want to keep 100% of the quality, I can copy 5 out of 6 episodes from a DL disc to a SL disc without compressing the quality. But now, I want to add the 6th episode from the first disc onto the second disc which is going to contain episodes 7, 8, 9 and 10 (from the second disc I am burning). I want to keep the chapters as I previously did and I don't want to merge .VOB files together. I have tried changing the files names from VTS_1_0 to VTS_2_0 so I can fit all episodes on there but it isn't working, I gues it has something to do with the VIDEO_TS.BUP and VIDEO_TS.IFO files. What can I do?

Easy as pie. Use DVDShrink in the Reauthor mode. There are tons of Guides and How-tos accessible from Shrink's download page:

    https://www.videohelp.com/tools/DVD_Shrink

You need not compress. Just limit the number of episodes to fit a disc. I did this with my Deadwood backups.

    I am using DVD Shrink.

    This is the story:

    - Open disc 1 in DVD Shrink
    - Go to re-author mode
    - Just selected all the episodes
    - I cut of the credits and intro
    - 6 episodes could not fit so I only backed up 5
    - I burned these 5 episodes onto disc

Now for my second brun, I want to rip disc 2 doing the same as above, only I want episode 6 from the disc 1 rip I did earlier, to be burnt onto my next disc with the episodes from the new rips on disc I want to do.

I want episode 6 and the episodes from disc 2, all on one disc with all the chapters, no compression or VOB merging.

Did you rip both Disc 1 and Disc 2 to the hard drive? You know, you can access both discs' VIDEO_TS folders in DVDShrink, and choose your episodes from the different discs in the Reauthor mode. Select different discs from the DVD Browser tab in the right column near the top. You CAN mix and match from different discs.

    Lookie here: http://www.dvdshrink.info/compilation.php
