Question how to edit sub/idx file

I have an avi with sub/idx file. I edited out a minute of the avi, and of course, after the edit, the subtitle timing is off.
I don't want to change the sub/idx into srt. How can I deal with this problem?

Use the Vobsub tools.

I think this would work: make 2 copies of your sub.idx files.
copy 1: crop from begining of edit to end
copy 2: crop from start of file to end of edit

Join them with Vobsub Joiner with the appropriate offset for copy 2.

Thanks for the info. I was able to do it with Vobsub Cutter and Vobsub Joiner. I wanted to cut out about 3 minutes of a movie with idx/sub subtitles (from 17min 0 sec to 19min56 sec.) I used an avi editor/joiner (like Boilsoft or VirtualdubMod) to save the first part (from the beginning of the movie to 17 min) and the second part (from 19min 56 sec to the end of the movie). Then I combined the parts together. Then I used Vobsub Cutter (see screenshot 1) and inputed the idx file and set the end as 17 min and saved as part1. Then I used Vobsub Cutter again (see screenshot 2) and inputed the same idx file and set the beginning as 19min 56 sec. The end of the movie was automatically entered. I saved this as part2. Then I used VobSub Joiner (see screenshot 3) and inputed part1 and part2 and set the output folder as output3 and clicked go. Also it is important to enter the time (in this case 17min) of the beginning of part2. Screenshot 4 shows the software I used to cut and join idx/sub files.

Run the Application


Now click Go to file and click on Import/OCR VobSub(sub/idx) subtitle


a dialog box appears
select the file you want probably vobsub(sub/idx) file


Now another dialog box appears


you can check or uncheck Fix OCR errors, Prompt for unknown words, Try to guess unknown words, Auto break paragraph if more than two lines
Click on start OCR button to start the process


If you check Fix OCR errors, Prompt for unknown words, Try to guess unknown words, Auto break paragraph if more than two lines
A dialog box appears suggesting spellings click change if you want to change the work or just skip it


now we can see the text


now click on file save as


Give the file name and save it

Hello.
I have another question about how to edit sub/idx file.

I have a sub file that i want to delete the hearing impaired dialogue (dialogue which is in parentheses).
But i want to keep the sub file format.

Converting to srt would present many more problems, since the subtitles are also custom located in the video (i mean, they are not in the center, but eg. if we have 2 persons talking - one on the right and one on the left - the subs are on the right and on the left, under the person talking).
Making them to srt, would make them go all to the center, and that would come with problems of eg. 4-5 lines per subtitles, or absense of dashes etc..

That's why i want to keep the format as it is, but i just want to delete the dialogue in parentheses..

DVDsubedit can do this.
In fact, it has a command "hide hearing impaired text" that can do it automatically.
You can also edit subs individually as bitmaps if that doesn't work as you want.

well, it doesn't work because i don't have an ifo.
i converted the sub to sup to open with dvdsubedit but it looks all wrong.

(i regularly use it to edit DVD subtitles)
