Hi there, I want to know if the DVR 520H and DVR640H have a program for the region free. Thanks to help me...
-
I have a related question.
I own a Pioneer DVR-220 (aka 225) which is the same as the 520 but without the hard drive. The display has the various elements for HD, copy from HD, etc - they just don't illuminate.
Could I just install a hard drive and follow the processes described in this thread? Does anyone know if the firmware in the 220 is the same as the 520? If I need different firmware, is it on the service disc?
Now, I haven't opened the unit yet, so the required connectors may not even be present. I'm just wondering if this has ever been explored. I don't want to take apart my entire media cabinet and the DVR-220 if this process has already been explored.
Thanks. -
I lost my Timer Recording too, I have a region 2 DVR-530H and upgraded to 3.34 multiregion firmware. Is it possible to backup the original firmware on a disc?
Edit: Nevermind... It's working now with an Australian firmware.
Many thanks to all, specially to Hakan -
Please necessary of aid. I have a Pioneer DVR-530H-S and tried to make one upgrade with a HDD of 250gb Samsung, emulating the control of the Pioneer in a Palm; using DVD ID of the Pioneer. Later that I inicializo the HDD still continues appearing message “HDD ERR”. Somebody has some idea of as to decide this problem?
PS: They forgive my English. -
fkrueger2007:
You need to install a firmware on your unit.
Send me a PM with what region your DVR are for aand I'll se if I can help you. -
There has been a successfully replacement of the HDD in a DVR-543H, it is now equipped with a 250GB HDD.
The 'old' ID Data Disc do not work, you need another special one, a Type 2 disc Pioneer calls it.
You do not need to fidle with firmwares or any linux OS.
It is as easy as for the DVR-520H, just follow Step 1 & 2 in the Guide that you find at http://www.pioneerfaq.info/english/dvr630.php?player=DVR-630H&question=replace_hdd
I'll make a new Guide later on. -
Hello everybody, I'm new on this forum.
I've been reading this thread for months and finally I've decided to upgrade my DVR-520H with a larger HDD (I hope at least 300 GB...).
I've got the software to emulate the Pioneer Service remote control, but I've failed in finding the GGV1179 Pioneer DVD.
Can anyone please help me in finding it?
Thanks in advance and regards.

Many many thanks to HKAN who kindly helped me in finding a solution to my problem.

However, there seem to be one or two "bad spots" developing on the 520's HDD, as I see that material recorded there seems to have a video + audio "stutter", or speed change issue, with possible dropouts. (This is based on the assumption that if you delete something, and soon record the next program, it is going onto the same area just vacated by erasing of the previous recording. And that may or may not be the case.) So, if the status of the stock HDD gets worse much more quickly, that could influence the timetable I had in mind for doing the upgrade.
Anyway, that is not what I am writing to you about just now. I saw your page on http://www.pioneerfaq.info/english/dvr630.php?player=DVR-630H&question=power_board_BLOWN
and it reminded me of all the discussion on VH about capacitor failure in today's electronic devices -- although I don't recall any specific reports relating to the Pioneer dvr models. But if this is something that is likely to happen, sooner or later, and if it is fixable by owners, out of warranty, that might be something for your site to deal with, as in the case of the page listed above. Also, we know that the burners will fail, sooner or later. Replacing them has been discussed to some degree on VH, but that subject might make another good PDF guide to include on your site.
The Pioneer DVRs are really good units, considerably more expensive than most of their competitors, and we have a strong interest in keeping them working well for as long as possible. -
Hi Seeker47
Thank you for your kind words about my site.
But my site would not exist if it was not for the Pioneer user’s lust to experiment with theire Dvd player or recorders.
As you can see in the PDF, and on the web page it self, there has been a lot of people working on the difficulty to replace the HDD in the DVRs that have some sort of TV Guide recording software. With out there effort the guide would simply not exist. Pioneer US have now dropped the TV Guide system from there DVRs as it always created havoc for the end user. This makes an HDD replacement much easier now.
For the guide on how to Repairing the Power supply board VWR1392 , I was contacted by Hon.
He asked if I could get the service manual for the DVR-630H. I had it in paper format so I scanned the pages he wanted and as in return of the favor he gave me the guide on how to do it.
For replacing the burner, I have read that there been a few attempts to do it. Some have reported that they have done so successfully and some have not.
I've even read that someone now could burn + dvd discs.
If anyone would like to write a guide on how to do surtain things in the DVR or any other Pioneer product, I would gladly host such files on my site. -
For anyone wondering about other codes you can enter without the remote.
Use same method to enter them as described in another thread, to fix the EPG problem
suggested be Pioneer.

If you have a Logitech Harmony Remote , you can now download the Pioneer Service Remote Control at theire web site: http://www.logitech.com/harmony.
You find it the global database. (Manufacturer: Pioneer.....Model:GGF1381 under the 'DVD Recorder' device type category). -
Would you mind posting a link to this global database please. It like trying to find a needle in a hay stack.
-
You need to login to get to it, thats the info I got as I do not own a harmony remote control I can not creat an acount to get a more precise location.
The information was supplyed to me by a harmony user.
There should also be a file for making the Pioneer dvd-players multiregional, but this is not confirmed.

Hi all big brothers,
I recently download the pioneer_service.nrg from interest. I burn it on DVD-R by NERO. Follow the step in previous messages to replace my harddisk on 510H. When I put in the DVD-R, there is no respond and seem like the disc is not work! The problem is CPRM is already erased. I get "Incorrect CPRM information" now. What can I do? Is the GGV1179 and GGV1273 Type 2 (since my friend also get same problem on his 541H) still available in the internet or where can I buy one? Many thanks! -
check the content of your service disk first (are you sure that you've got the right thing?)

The disc should be unknown format and a can't read disc in a PC.
There is no way to actually check the disc, if it is just unreadble it should be OK.
What models is it actually that you have and can what 'production year' are they? -

dslrwalker:
For the DVR-510H the 'GGV1179' should work fine.
For the DVR-541H you may need to have the new ID Data Disc 'GGV1273 Type2'
I cant optain any service manuals for asian models, sorry!
So i can not really check out what version of service disc you need! -
I tried to upgrade my DVR-533HS to 250GB using the Linux dd method and a PocketPC with the Pronto remote emulator + service remote code but now I'm getting a CPRM ID ERROR, don't know what I did wrong. Do I still need the GGV1179 disc and where can I get it from(aside from Pioneer)?
Thanks! -
I've got a DVR-533H that has just gone completely funky...all functions except ANY related to the TV Guide still work, but I can't get the TVGOS menu to even come up anymore -- or anything from it such as 'scheduled recordings' from the Home Menu. Yeah, I called Pioneer and they said send it to Columbus, OH for service, but I'd rather not...any ideas would be much appreciated. Yeah, I've done the hard reset from the DVD front panel...still no TV Guide.

Hi
I don't remeber if I told about the new Guide!
There is now a guide for changing the HDD in a DVR-540/543/640H US&Canadian units.
How ever this guide could be used for replacing the HDD in a DVR-545HX European unit.
So it seems that all the Pioneer 2006 DVR models uses the same procedur and most of all it seems that you do not need to fiddle with firmwares, Linux or what ever the case was for the 2005 models.
The Guide will later on be updated to be more internationel, now it is more US&Canadian.
Guide for 2006 years models. -
I am trying to replace a crashed HD in my DVR-510H-S. I have read through where different people have downloaded the service disk. Can someone please provide me with a download location?
-
I've read the entire topic, and just getting everything together to upgrade mine from 80gb to 500gb, but have a few queries?
I have a DVR-RT601H-S (uk spec) and because mine is very rarely mentioned, a rarer model, (with VCR & video plus), I was thinking it would be best to do the Linux copy as laid out in part 5 of the Pioneer faq..
Copying the complete HDD should copy all I need, guide plus, video plus etc.... or am I missing something here?
Also is it wise / necessary to clear all the programs from the HDD before doing this?
Is it a correct assumption that once the original hdd is removed from the player, (for copying with Linux for instance), it can't simply be put back in again without using the remote to recode? in other words I'd need to be sure the remote works before unplugging the original hdd..
Lastly what's the best way to check the service disc will work, (or that I at least have a new enough, or correct version), before I start?
thanks for any help in advance & to all those who helped create this resource :P
