Yes, as long as the program you recorded is not flagged to prevent you.

I haven't run across this, but it mentions it in the manual for the HS2.

The Panasonic DMR-HS2, is the predecessor of the Panasonic DMR-E80H

No, no flags on home recordings.

It sounds like you are going to be making copies for people from you home videos. Do you have a DVD burner in your PC? Actually, for the best compatibility, you would want to make copies from a PC burner.

This is very confusing statement. You should explain it to him more.

  6. yeah , i dont get that one.

i know i could clone the dvd-r's with my pc, but i thought it would be easier with the E80( i dont have one yet, so i dont know all the functions) to just pop in another blank cd-r after im done making one and hit record again, and boom in about 15 min have another copy.

    not true?

You ment DVD-R, right ? BTW: I don't know how that works. Try to go to manufacturer web site and download manual. It might be there.

  8. if i was going to make a dvd with my E80, and then go to my pc to clone it, i wouldnt buy an E80, i would get a DVD+RW machine. like a philips DVDR75 or a sony RDRGX7.

no need to have a harddrive unless im going to be making multiple
    copies, thats what im thinkin.

    right?

  9. HD have more advantages. You can record TV show and only if you like it you burn it. Also some editing functions should be available on HD that are not on DVD-R. Best thing what I can come up with is to record 4 episodes of new Friends series. Cut off commercials and burn them to one DVD. Without HD (I think) this would be imposible.

You are right and I had intended to, but before I go into a compatibility spill, I wanted to make sure I knew what he was trying to do. Hence the reason for the clarification of my assumption and question.

    Ok, here is the deal.

Reason #1 for making copies on a computer - Due to the way DVD-R's are authored with a Panasonic, they seem to have compatibility issues when they are played with other DVD players. Its pretty much seems hit or miss. Also, even if it does play, it may not play correctly (ie, lose the functions of FF and RW, this happened to me on a APEX 5131).

    See below for more detail:

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=175473

Reason #2 for making copies on a computer - Speed. If you burn from the E80 (if it is like the HS2), you will make copies at only 1x to DVD-R. This means it takes the length of the program for the copy to be made, not 15 mins. From a computer you can do faster burns if your DVD burner supports it.

So, if you are going to be giving DVD-R's to people (whom will all have different types of DVD players) for the best speed and compatibility, you'd probably want to burn from a PC.

Please note, I am not trying to turn you off from a Panasonic, as mentioned above, I have the older model and love it. I just thought the info would help. I had to learn all this through experience.

  11. Since buying my E80 in late July, I've created about 100 DVD-Rs equally split between the E80 and the external Sony 510UL on my PC. All have worked on a wide range of DVD players with no difference. The reason I use the Sony for "mass" duplication of personal DVDs is simply because it's faster.

  12. Just make a dvd-r with your Panasonic then make an ISO of that dvd on your computer & you can make tons of dvds from that one ISO.

  13. I do what handyguy described, make an ISO image to the HD with DVD Decrypter, then use ISO Write mode to make copies. I've distributed quite a few copies of these DVDs to friends with various players and have never heard of a compatibility issue.

One caveat to using the Panasonic E80H to make copies: If you have recorded to the hard drive in (and I forget the exact function name) high speed or DVD-R compatibility mode, you can make copies in High Speed Dub Mode at a higher speed than 1X, although I'm not sure exactly what speed that is. You can use high speed dub mode if you're not transcoding the program to a different speed. I transferred a couple of 20 minute programs the other day to DVD-RAM, and if I remember correctly, it took 7 min to transfer each 20 min segment. The segments were recorded in LP (4 hr) mode.

    Hope this helps...
