CrunchyGUI for MacOS (Front end for FFmpeg)

I've released v1.1.18 of CrunchyGUI. It's stable and fully fleshed out. This is a front end for FFMPEG that started as a tool for me to avoid having to do manual HDR to SDR conversions, and kind of expanded for there. Supports VideoToolBox hardware acceleration.

You'll need an FFmepg binary to do the encoding. The nightly builds generally work very well.

They have links for both FFmpeg and FFprobe. FFprobe is optional but suggested.

CrunchyGUI is a native macOS app for video conversion, remuxing, audio processing, subtitles, metadata editing, and batch encoding, powered by FFmpeg. Based on the current source and README, its features include:
Video encoding and formats
- MP4 and MKV output.
- Software encoding with SVT-AV1, H.264/x264, and H.265/x265.
- Apple VideoToolbox hardware encoding for H.264 and HEVC.
- Video stream copying for remuxing without re-encoding.
- Quality, speed presets, frame-rate adjustment, keyframe intervals, and hardware-specific controls.
- Codec-specific advanced arguments and a live effective-settings preview.
Color and picture adjustments
- Automatic detection of source color metadata, bit depth, and HDR/SDR.
- Preserve source color, convert HDR to SDR, or manually configure color handling.
- Six tone-mapping algorithms, including Hable, Reinhard, and Mobius.
- Interactive color analysis with frame previews and hue, saturation, brightness, contrast, and gamma adjustments.
- Compare source interpretations, step through nearby frames, and confirm or discard adjustments.
Cropping and resizing
- Automatic letterbox detection using fast distributed samples or thorough every-frame analysis.
- Manual crop overrides with visible edge measurements.
- Keep cropped source size, fix width or height, specify exact dimensions, or fit within bounds.
- Common resolution presets, aspect-ratio locking, optional upscaling, and sample-aspect-ratio correction.
- Bicubic, Lanczos, and Spline36 scaling.
Noise reduction and sharpening
- Up to four noise-reduction passes and four sharpening passes.
- HQDN3D, Wavelet, NLMeans, and BM3D denoising.
- CAS, LapSharp, and Unsharp sharpening.
- Individual filter presets and detailed customization for supported filters.
- Performance warnings for expensive filter combinations.
Audio
- Up to four independently configured output tracks, using embedded or external audio.
- Stream copy or conversion to AAC, AC-3, E-AC3, or Opus.
- Channel layouts from mono through 7.1, including Dolby Pro Logic II downmixing.
- Bitrate, sample-rate, track-title, and default-track controls.
- Streaming, film, and custom loudness normalization, including two-pass analysis and optional pre-scanning.
- Export and convert, or raw extract of audio files from source
Subtitles and chapters
- Embedded and external subtitle selection, language tags, default tracks, conversion, and burn-in.
- Automatic selection based on the Mac’s language.
- Selectable bitmap/PGS subtitles in MKV; burn-in for MP4.
- Import, edit, add, remove, restore, or generate chapters at regular intervals.
- Export and convert, or raw extract of subtitle files and chapters from source to common formats.
Metadata and artwork
- Source metadata import and online lookup through TMDB and TheTVDB.
- Editable titles, sorting, media kind, descriptions, genre, release date, ratings, studio, composer, and artwork.
- Poster importing, removal, and aspect-ratio cropping.
- Metadata-only saving to a new file or replacement of the original without re-encoding media.
- Validated native metadata updates for supported MP4-family files; stream-copy remuxing for MKV.
Batch processing and queues
- Reusable JSON templates and per-tab template settings.
- Batch import from selected files or folders, optionally including subfolders.
- Per-file source inspection and language/channel-based track matching.
- Queue reordering, saving, editing, pause/resume, cancellation, and cleanup.
- Historical jobs can be loaded as new jobs; import warnings remain accessible.
Workflow and monitoring
- Short sample encodes with configurable start time and duration.
- Progress, rolling FPS, elapsed time, and ETA.
- Saved PLIST projects and preferences.
- Automatic filename cleanup and collision numbering.
- Optional custom Finder thumbnails.
- FFmpeg selection, build inspection, thread overrides, contextual help, and optional debug logging.
- Metadata-service credentials stored in macOS Keychain.
FFmpeg and FFprobe must be installed separately, with support for the selected encoders and filters.
