I need some guidance on a video editing project. I would like to create a 90 minute home movie highlights video from 30 separate mp4 files. The 30 mp4 files are about 50 MB in size. My wife has been going through the videos and writing down time frames that she wants me to grab from each video. So for example - "Video #1 : 1:35 to 1:47, 1:20 to 1:42, 3:50 to 4:20" etc.

I am using a Dell desktop PC running Windows 11.

I thought it would be pretty easy to do this using Clipchamp but it feels to clunky. I also realized I need to start at the end and work backwards or the timestamps no longer work.

I wish there was a way to type in the time frames I want to grab have the software produce the trimmed down mp4 for me complete with transitions between each scene. Is there anything like that available?

I would appreciate recommendations for software that will help me complete this project.

    Thanks in advance.

Use Kdenlive razor to select segments from a video.

All NLE(non-linear editor) can do forward or backward segment. Just drag the video in each track and used the razor to trim accordingly. Repeat the whole process for each segment until the whole video is done.
It will be easier to make use of the multi-tracks and you can slide each segment into its proper order. Multi-track is ideal for video transition.

  3. I'll second what pchan wrote, you can do this really easily in kdenlive for windows. Actually any NLE will do this, but kdenlive is free so what's not to like?

I installed it from that link, but it brought up a screen asking me to register and enter credit card info. It installed something called "PC App Store" and it seemed to take over my screen and wanted me to create an account. The only way I could get out of that screen was to log off but it ended up coming back after several minutes so I logged off again and deleted the "PC App Store" program that was installed. I had to log off to get out of that screen. How do I get around this?

Please stop. It's a freeware. Totally free.
Click on the link below and double click on kdenlive-25.12.0-B_standalone.exe. The download will start.
    https://download.kde.org/stable/kdenlive/25.12/windows/

Double click on kdenlive-25.12.0-B_standalone.exe and it will extract itself to a folder(kdenlive-25.12.0-B_standalone).
To launch it, just double click on kdenlive.exe in the Bin folder.
