Some advice please. I've imported all of my Hi8 analogue video into DV. I'm using iMovie to edit, then Compressor to make m2v files for import into DVDSP. The PCM audio is being converted to AC3.
The original Hi8 appears blurred and the colours washed out, DV versions also look the same (so that shows they're pretty close to the original).
Are there any filters I should be applying in Compressor to clean up the DV when converting to m2v. I've done a bit of experimentation with 'Sharpen' but this doesn't help the colour washout issue.
Any advice gratefully recieved.

The place to adjust the color or conntrast is in iMovie, where you can get some visual feedback. Were the colors washed out on the original Hi-8 tapes when viewed on a TV? Or did the fading occur as part of the transfer to DV? I've gone this same route and haven't seen this sort of fading going from Hi-8 deck through Sony DV Cam into iMovie.

The color/contrast adjustments in compressor are much better than the ones in iMovie. Use the color correction shadows, midtones and highlights and contrast controls. Also, you want to use the split screen mode in compressor to get real time feedback on the changes.

Willrob - the original Hi8 was washed out and the DV Cam -> iMovie step has just maintained the same quality.
OmegaSupreme (geat handle) - Thanks, I'll play with it in compressor. Anyone got any settings that I should try first?
