Unfortunately there is no universal answer. To make matters worse, "Brand Names" such as "TDK" and "Memorex" often use several different manufacturers to produce the discs they sell.

For instance, TDK sells discs they manufacture, as well as discs manufactured by RITEK and RICOH.

There is no easy way to tell "what is inside."

As if that was not complicated enough, different burners work better with different media which may work different with stand-alone players. The speed the disc is recorded at can also make a difference. Your best bet is to buy small quantities of different brands to try.

*TIP: It seems to be of popular opinion that media "Made in Japan" is often of higher quality. Look by the upc barcode, it is usually written very small. Fuji Film, and Maxell are two "brands" that come to mind.

I hope this helps some, and does not confuse you any further (I know it can, my head is still spinning from the information overload!)
Some people say dog is mans best friend. I say that man is dog's best slave... At least that is what my dogs think.
