  1. Yet another audio sync problem thread

Hi all, I'll cut right to the chase here: I'm trying to encode an avi:
    VIDEO: [DIVX] 640x352, 12bpp, 23.976 fps, 1109.3 kbs (135.4 kbyte/s)
    AUDIOCODEC: framecopy (format=55, chans=2, rate=48000, bits=0, bps=14722, saample-0)
.. to kvcd using the following settings:
    ffmpegX Preset File

(probably more info there than is needed, but I wanted to make surer I offered as much information as possible)

I have the latest 3ivx (4.5.1) and the latest Divx (5.2) installed.

The resulting file (with the audio sync problems) is identified by ffmpegx as:
    Mpeg 1 System File [Video/Audio]
    Muxrate : 1.45 Mbps
    Estimated Duration : 39:29.50s
    Size [352 x 240] 23.98 fps 104.86 Mbps
    Audio: Mpeg 1 layer 2
    224 kbps 44100 hz
    Stereo, No emphasis
When the file is played on my Mac or burnt as a VCD the audio progressively creeps ahead of the video.

I've tried converting the original avi file to an mov (using Dr.Divx and then exporting from QT as a Motion JPEG A file at 23.98 fps) and then using ffmpegx to KVCD-a-fy it, only to have similar results.

Some threads here have suggested that re-encoding the original avi file using the "Fast Divx" preset would 'fix' the problem - however, there is no 'Fast Divx' option in the presets menu (ffmpegx 0.0.9p).

I've had similar problems to this in the past, however I've usually 'just put up with it' - but it's finally ticked me off enough to come looking for assistance.. and any is appreciated and welcome.

  2. A possible cause is that NTSC FILM with 3:2 pulldown is not supported by the mpeg-1 & VCD standards. Try mpeg-2 (CVD preset), or use NTSC for mpeg-1.

The "Fast DivX" option is now named "DivX ffmpeg".

  3. Thanks for the suggestion major - I was only using the pulldown option because I though that I should (if that makes sense), the audio still goes out of sync if i disable that setting.

I'll give the CVD option a whirl and see if she flies.

Thanks for the help (again) - much appreciated.
