    They have to do a good job on special effects. Everyone wants to see stars, lasers, etc. not people chatting inside a room --- and they gotta have some hollywood stars (prime time actors).

    You liked Stargate... I didn't think it did the movie justice (IMO)...

    I agree with that, but they did what they could by using an all new cast and making a plausible plot.

    Running to it's eight series the volume of plot and characters is pretty vast now. no episode will have the "discovery" feeling, in the same way matrix reloaded and revolutions had nothing compared to the "revelation" in the Matrix. But SG1 is excellent, nearly as good as babylon 5. Atlantis is pretty good too. I've kept up with it, so it was pretty funny for me at a convention yesterday with a guy standing awestruck as an american guy described how the series has been panning out - it starts airing on satellite and cable tomorrow night.
