  1. I would like to know of a good program that can cut by frame as it is the only way to cut accurately, I tried the following and I have the following issues:
    ---------------------------------
    AVI MPEG ASF WMV Splitter
(DOES NOT KNOW THERE IT STANDS, AND THE 01:01xx timeline is crazy it will show frames from another second in the same second, you really don't know where you're cutting from, it will cut the video well if you give it the right amount of time without padding or reencoding which is good but just the concept of having h:m:000 is out of the place as one second can't have 999 frames and it doesn't even do the equivalent like if a movie second has 2 frames it will not go from 0 to 500! instead will go to 001 and when it reaches 999 which is supposed to be in the same second, will be like from the 20second after.
    ---------------------------------
    TMPGEnc 2.5 cutter

a little better in showing the right frame being cut from, but it will not cut exactly as is told.
    ---------------------------------
    mpeg-vcr
Too much padding overhead and will increase your file size.
Good sync with the movie on the preview window when showing h:m:frames instead of thousands of miliseconds which is the correct way, but after cutting your video appears to look diferent as if it was poorly reencoded.
    --------------------------------

I need the perfect cutter, any ideas?

I use Media Studio Pro, depending on the view settings it will show a single frame or second.... the timeline uses hr:mineconds:frame I'd look around in the settings of the apps your using now and see if there is a way to adjust the view.

  5. I am surprised about your comments regarding MPEG-VCR. I have always been very successfull with Womble in editing MPEG. I haven't noticed any reduction in quality in the final product as I believe it only re-encodes what is absolutely necessary (i.e., when a cut is made on a B or P frame as opposed to an I frame). Anyway...I hope you find something that works for you.

I just started using TMPGEnc's mpeg Editor 2 weeks ago. I'm happy with it.

  7. Womble MPEG Video Wizard or MPEG-VCR. As babyboo pointed out, no re-encoding occurs, except at the edit point if it is not at an I frame. I've use MVW all the time with no quality loss at all...

  8. mpeg video wizard..once you get used to the interface, it's really good...also handles ac3 input (but can't encode into ac3 output, e.g. if you put a transition into the mpeg it will re-encode the audio to wav or lpcm or lmpeg1 layer 3 (I forget which) - but on just cutting / joining it will splice your ac3. reasonably quick too

I'm concerned about videoredo, my mpg has 1:05:25sec but the video stops at 1:05:23 so why is that 2sec losss? I need perfection and this is wrong.

maybe it stops on the last I frame - or last closed I frame GOP ..

btw , a minor point , when i see 1:05:23 , i think it is 1 minute, 5 seconds and 23 frames .. as usually the last segment is frames , but you did say seconds the first time ..

some of these mpeg cutters don't properly recognize frame rate and if drop frame or not -- mpeg-vcr doesn't , but still does a pretty good job ..

If you can't fix whatever's causing it, just add 2 seconds from another file (or re-add 2 seconds from that file) at the end.

no that's not the solution, by the way, I used TMPGEnc MPEG Editor and its cutter worked great! however I'm having trouble a way to join them back, any good joiners?
