The last days i have been testing out different programs for cutting out scenes from a music video without having to convert it (like i have to do with virtualdubmod). I have a vob file and all i want is to cut it without encoding it or loosing any quality.

I found a program called vobmerge. I am looking for a similar program which lets me cut out the scenes just as easy as this programs merge them. Does a program like that excist?

I did find a program called Mpg2Cut, and it id a good job. But i need to cut out the scene to add subtitles to it, and aegisub only allows avi files (it gives me a warning when opening vob or mpg files). Are there any easy programs that lets me convert without great loss in quality?

I know how to use virtualdubmod, but the result when it comes to the quality isnt that good and the files turn out to be so tiny (approx 20-30 mb). I use xvid when converting).

I really hope someone can help me out!

Increase the xvid video bitrate and you will get better video quality or try convert with AutoGK. But aegisub makes external subtitles? So you can use the avi when making subtitles and then just get the original mpg and the subtitle as final output. Or do you want permanent subtitles in the image?

    How do i do that?

Yeah, i want permanent subtitels. Up til now i have been using virtualdubmod, but it would be much nicer to have the pv in a better quality, especially when i have the original vob file myself.

I am gonna try out AutoGK to see if there is any differnece.

Thanks for your help so far

  4. If you're primarily interested in quality, not file size, use Xvid in Target Quantizer (~constant quality) mode. You'll probably find that a Quantizer of 3 delivers good image quality and a reasonable file size. Going down to 2 will give slightly better quality but larger files. You can enter any value from 1 to 31.
