  1. I ust need some adivce on capturing a film I want to do. I'm gonna capture Gladiator from a PAL VHS Tape. I have an ATI AIW 128 Pro. Also my Pc is 500mhz / 128MB RAM / Win XP.

    Shall I Capture......
    1) Straight into Divx (using VDUB) Wat settings shall i use
    or
    2) Encode into MPEG 1 or 2 then encode to Divx.

I'm not quite sure if I want Divx or VCD either.
Also I only have 10GB or hard-disc space so HuffyUV is not possible for a 2hour movie.

    What shall I do guys??

  2. BAD MOVE:

Always capture in YU12 320*240 NO RECOMPRESSION CD QUALITY AUDIO. That gives the best quality.

    If it was a choice:

    Directly to DIVX using:

DIVX3.11alpha fast motion 7 smooth and 6000 bitrate. MP3 audio because it really is very good but needs alot of CPU Power! Use virtualdub for this.

If you capture straight into DivX you're probably gonna have real jerky movie due to the fact that the DIvX codec requires Alot of CPU usage and your computer might not be fast enough to capture straight to DivX. I have a 566 Mhz processor and a 15 gig HD and I drop enough frames with the DivX codec to rule it out for straight Capture. My suggestion would be to capture with a lossless codec Like Huffy or PicVideo's Mjpeg and then Convert. Decide wether you're gonna watch it on your TV or your Computer. If you're gonna watch it on your computer then I would suggest Encoding to DivX. If you're gonna watch it on your TV or a slower computer then I would suggest Mpeg (or (S)(X)VCD).
    Hope this helps.
