For emails you may see a difference depending on your provider. For web page loads you probably won't see a vast difference between the 3Mb pland and the 6Mb plan as many web sites can or will only upload so fast to any specific IP. Where it really comes in handy is downloading LARGE and / or multiple files. That's what makes it all worthwhile.Originally Posted by ChrisX
Also, with SBC if you sign up for a 1yr contract, the modem is free. If you go month-to-month with no contract it's $99 (and your monthly rate is higher). I don't see much point in going month to month unless you're planning on moving in the next few months. If you factor in 4 months of service at the month-to-month rate of $46.95 AND the $99 modem (which again is FREE with a 1yr contract), you've practically paid for an entire year's worth of service at the contract rate.

EDIT : I forgot about the $50 activation fee for month-to-month customers.
Looking at the math...
$26.95 x 12mos = $323.40 for the year (1yr contract)
-$99 for the modem
-$50 for the activation fee
=174.40
divided by $49.95 non-contract month-to-month rate
=~3.5 months.Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
I don't think I'd be comfortable using my work RAS connection at home for personal use. Even if I wasn't violating their AUP, I'd still know that everything I did at home was logged somewhere at work.Originally Posted by DVD_Ripper
