Hi,
I'm trying to copy a DVDr as a compilation through the DVD-video option. I drag over all the video files and I keep getting this message-
"Nero was unable to create a temporary file to store the files that were dragged into the compilation. Please check the Nero cache preferences page and select a valid cache path"
Now I restored the temp. path to default and got the same message. I can't work out the problem. I normally don't copy DVDs this way but this particular DVD is making things difficult.
If I try to copy as "Copy entire disc' I get this message-
"Complilation will not fit onto a blank disc" even though the source disc is a 4.7 gb DVDr.
Also tryed going through 'TMPGEnc DVD author' but that only picked up a portion of the disc? like 14 min.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks,
Rav.

Copy the disc to your pc first and then copy to the blank

Rip to HD using DVDDecrypter or SmartRipper. Burn using Nero.
If in doubt, Google it. -
Theres no need to use one of the programs above since your master is a dvdr a simple copy in windows explorer is all you need.
-
I use DVDDecrypter when copying DVDRs all the time. I think it just makes it easier.
-
I do not see how using a third party ripper is easier than using a perfetcly good one that is on all systems.
-
When would it not be possible to copy the dvd using explorer but possible to rip?
-
Another benefit of DVDDecrypter is it can Rip to ISO. Much easier for multiple copies, archiving etc etc.Originally Posted by HardcorerussIf in doubt, Google it.

Is this not what you mean here?Originally Posted by jimmalenko

I tried that, but "an error occured". Maybe I have some issues with DVD-Rom to sort out. BTW this DVDr only has a VideoTS folder and no Audio. I don't know if that's contributing to the problem.Originally Posted by Hardcoreruss

DVD's normally only have files in the video_ts folder so this is not your problem.
What is the error you are getting when copying ? -

It sounds like there is a problem with your dvd. Is it scratched at all ?
-
It's a newly burnt DVD I got through a trade. Although looking at the surface, there is one signifcant scratch which follows about an inch with the the edge of the disc. Not from the centre out. Is that maybe a factor?
Thanks anyway for your help. -
I would say it probably is. I am not sure of a way around the actually faulty disc. There is probably a program that can try to get around this.
Anyone care to suggest one ? -
I tried using DVDxrescue but it got wasn't making much progress after an hour, there was still 300 minutes to go until it was ready to write to a blank disc
-
Sorry I am not sure where to go from here then

No.Originally Posted by Hardcoreruss
I meant on the fly as in disc to disc copy in Nero or whatever. Sorry, I was a bit vague.
The point I was trying to make was that while you can do it in Windows Explorer and I have advocated this method in the past, depending on IDE drive configs and the like, it is often quicker and/or more convenient to go via ISO and ripping software. While not required for any decryption work, it is an easy way to create an ISO file for the inexperienced user.
@Raves:
More often than not, CRC errors generally indicate either scratches and/or smudges/fingerprints on the disc. Different Drives have different sensitivities also. Clean the disc. Try it in another ROM or burner if possible. If in doubt, Google it. -
Try using some fine rubbing compound on the scratch. You could also try using old-fashioned toothpaste. These both work to remove small scratches. Might be just enough to restore the playability of your DVD-R
-
I also have seen people talking about using brasso to fix scratches.

This is another issue altogether, but I've installed another DVD-rom. It works ok, but everytime I try to use it, I have to find it through the 'Add hardware wizard' I've had success using that for reading when burning through nero in the past. ( When I've had read errors while copying through my primary combo-drive, I used it instead with success). On the rare occasion it works, but most other times Nero stops responding. Nero picks up the drive when my computer does. It's an MSI atapi 16x DVD-rom.Originally Posted by jimmalenko
