Please help. I bought an OEM NEC 2500a and thought I could easily just load the NEC driver. XP only uses the Microsoft Driver and when I go to update the driver from anyone I download it doesn't recognize it because it isn't an .inf file. When I try to flash using Herrie's firmware, it doesn't recognize the drive. However, I can burn with it, just slow.
I heard you might be able to flash through DOS but if this is true, could some give a detailed explanation of how to do it. I appreciate any help.
Thanks

All you need is the Microsoft Driver.
What EXACT current firmware is loaded on your drive??
What EXACT firmware are you trying to flash onto your drive??
You can burn, just slow???
DMA enabled?

I'd suggest you go to device manager and hit update driver on the NEC burner. A box should popup telling you other drivers were found and could be used. Just click on the microsoft drivers instead of the INTEL one. It sounds like you have the INTEL APPLICATION ACCELERATOR drivers installed if it's a .inf file.
Make sure DMA is enabled. Here's a guide on how to set DMA mode in XP.
