  1. I have a DVD of some TV shows I need to backup. There are 4 shows per disk so I extract 2 episodes to one 3.8G - 4G vob. They play in VLC or mplayer so I know I've got everything. But now what do I do with the vob?

In order to get the VIDEO_TS folder so I can use Toast to burn to DVD, would I need use the DVD>DVD4 in Tools to convet the vob file or can it be done with the DVD preset drop down menu in the Video tab.

    Thanks.

  2. I tried using the DVD drop down preset in the video tab. It made a 2.1 G VIDEO_TS folder but I get no sound. The .mpg that it made has sound. I tried changing the Audio settings to what is in the vob but same thing.

One odd thing is when I drop the vob on ffmepgx it only shows 1 minute in the 'min keep in' box???

    Hello,
Have you tried other programs? Check these out for backups:

    dvdshrink
    dvdremake
    dvdlab
tmpgenc dvd author (for authoring to dvd)

P.S. Hope you get your program working the way you want it to

  4. I think you have the wrong forum yoda313. This forum focuses on ffmpeg X (MacOS X-only), which means that offering up Windows tools isn't going to help gesplus. However, I agree that using a DVD backup package is probably a better solution in this case and offer up a couple of Mac links:

    http://www.wormintheapple.gr/macdvd/DVDbackup.html
(This one simply rips the selected parts from the DVD and has instructions on how to use it and Toast to burn those parts)

    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11518
(Mac version of DVD2one, but has a cost involved for extended use)

Personally, I recommend DVDBackup, as the compressors currently available for the Mac either are unwieldy or expensive, and all you want is to extract the features.
Slaughtering the competition with amatuer-quality VCD authoring abilities... fear my non-l33t skillz.

  6. Why can't I get a helpful response to this? Is anybody home out there major, or am I the first person ever to try and take a vob to DVD? Anyone have a clue?

I tried the DV preset, figured I could take it into iDVD afterwards. Finally had some success, but I'm getting little bits of static in the audio now in the DV file. The vob plays fine in VLC, clean with no static but when I run it through ffmepgx I get static.

I see the DVD>DVD4 needs to be done with the registered version only. I'm not looking for free, I realize good development of apps takes time, knowledge and resources. I'll gladly register it if it will do what I need it to do, all I need is a reply confirming that.

TIA to anyone that can help.

  7. DVD>DVD4 can turn a VOB to VIDEO_TS but only if it is greater than 4GB (though I plan to extend it in order to do the same if it is smaller).

Otherwise, using the DVD preset will work as well, though a little longer. You said you didn't hear sound. Try to read the file with VLC and see if it changes anything.
