  1. Now is the Photo paper the same length as regular paper? My printer likes to leave a margin and with the margin, the dvd insert does not fit on the page... Is their a way to adjust this? LMK Please...

    Okay,

I am so fustrated right now that I could through my computer or printer or somthin out the window! I have been wanting to make DVD inserts for my dvds, and use nero to make them on my PC, but when I print on normal paper, it does not print to the right size, plus its crappy quality. So I went out today and bought some Memerex DVD case inserts (which are really hard to find... All my office supply stores did not have them except once) Well, the inserts came with their own software, buts its CRAP!!!!! I colaberated my printer several times to be positive I did it right, then I printed my first. It cuts of part of the label, and makes the spine part of the label misaligned. I look at the computer, and everthing is great on their, but when it prints, the beginning part of the label(the part that prints first) is cut off. So I gave up on that software and moved to nero, but they dont have the template for these dvd inserts, and you cant make you own becuase you can not make the dvd print landscape! It prints only one way, and aperently its like the one flaw of the program!

So, I still have 23 of these labels left and was thinking of returning them. What to you people use? Please someone help me out. The lebels are Memerex 3202-3713, and my printer is a lexmark X125... LMK thanks

  2. Here's a simple solution..........

Ditch the store bought crap and just use multi-purpose project paper! I've been doing my inserts like this for now per a friend's recommendation and have been surprisingly pleased with the final results.

No bleeding the edges ... no printer calaboration ..... no more headaches!!!

    Happy cover making.

  3. LQQK - See how good it looks! The screen resolution doesn't give it justice. Wait til you see the actual print, you'll be really impressed.

  4. Any specific brand you recommend for those of us who don't shop for paper often, mysticmel?

  5. Sure thing freestyler ... use "Jet" Print Photo. You can find it at your local Walmart's for like around $8-$10 bucks per 100 sheets.

  7. I use "hp everyday semi-gloss photo paper" 8 1/2 X 11, 45 lb...it was $15 at Office Depot for 100 sheets.

    To print inserts I use a Photoshop image 10.7 X 7.25 at 300 pixels/inch, but here's a little trick I do too...

I cut 3" off the end of one of the sheets and lightly tape it on the backside to a fresh sheet to make it 8 1/2 X 14 and use it like a "leader" on the printer feed end. Then...

I have an epson printer and which allows a minimum margin of .116 so I did some math and found that if I set the left margin to 2.884 it will start printing right at the edge where the "leader" meets and I only have to trim about .3 off the other end when it is done.

I'm sure those won't be the same numbers for you, but hopefully you get the idea. It works great for me!

I use generic photocopier paper (8.5x14) with a good white rating. Dont need glossy since if they are put in DVD case the clear cover makes them look glossy anyway. I use a free program call UndercoverXP to print the covers and it works great for covers. Done hundreds this way.

  10. What type of printer do you have? The new generation of photo printers have the ability to print all the way to the edge of the paper (borderless). Epson Photo Stylus and HP Photosmart printers will do this.

I have an Epson and I belive you have to click a box for 'borderless' in the "Advanced" properties dialog area. I belive (I've only done this once) you will get a warning that the print area exceeds the paper size, just click ok and continue.

A regular home/office printer may not have this option, my previous HP 692c didn't.
If it works, don't fix it.

Don't forget you can always use A4 size paper as well.

  13. Duh! I see you mentioned the printer in your original post.....I'm tired.
I know nothing about Lexmark or Canon (or for that matter, I don't know much about printers).

The way I do this is create a "New" image the size I need in Photoshop. Compose the cover at 300 dpi, then click print (paying attention to portrait or landscape setting). I've never had a problem. Photoshop centers whatever I print so I don't have to worry about centering. Always comes out perfect size (after trimming with a paper cutter). Maybe Photoshop is responsible.
If it works, don't fix it.

I have become accustomed to buying the 150 pack of semi-gloss photo paper thats offered at Sam's Club here lately..The one they offer right now is called Royal Brite...Works out very, very well.. I print my DVD Box Covers using Roxio's EZ CD Creator Label Maker v 6.2.110, and set the calibration through my printer for it to use the 8.5 x 14.0 Setting, even though the Paper is the regular 8.5 x 11.0 in size.... for some reason, only in this program will it print the outside case cover fully on the normal sized paper with the false settings...I Don't use the EZ CD Creator for anything else, only the Label Maker program for DVD Case Covers....I'm in the process of experimenting with this paper to create glossy Disc labels also.. Although they will have to be manually cut out, they will have the gloss appearance or semi gloss appearance of the manufactured production type.... I'm presently working out the adhesive issue, experienting with various differing brands, and application methods.. Once I get it done, I'll post a How-to Guide on Homemade Glossy/Semi Gloss Label making.. It'll beat spending Bigtime Bucks on Glossy DVD Disc labels for the small number provided in the store bought packages, vs. the outrageous prices they charge......
    Paranoid ?!?!?!? Who's Paranoid????!!!!!??

  16. First the Lexmark printer is not so good for labels.. The Epson is best and have better margins contrary to HP that always leave a big blank uncovered in one of the sides of paper. The quality of printing is very good in both... HP & Epson.
I had problems printing labels with HP All in one printers. The printout does not mach the precut label. The Epson prints pristine for this purpose.
I use glossy paper from Sam Club (200 sheets/$22) for the DVd covers and for the DVD label I buy it from Meritline (50 sheets 100 labels for $20)
I use Print Artist for labels making and Ulead Photo Expres for the covers
    So far so good;

  17. Thanks Everyone for the help! I went out and bought some Photo Quality Ink Jet Paper... I have to tap a small piece of paper to one side to make the printer feed in less, which makes them print out GREAT... It just is a pain to tape it... But it works... Thanks...

Why is everybody here obsessed with full bleed printing?
Get a good cutboard and exacto knife. Scissors if you're cheap and sloppy.

Obsessed?.. NO! I'm lazy. Do you think I'm going to risk or ruin a client disc touching or cutting it or glueing a imperfectly unalined label?? Come on!
For .20 cents I can stick a professional looking glossy label that looks terrific as a photo.
Now I'm printing it directly with Epson R200... Looks great!

i've used nero all the time for my dvd inserts and had no prob. in fact i think it's pretty good. about what you said about it not printing right. are you sure you didn't set the printing property to landscape? by default it may be on pportrait and so that is why part of the picture appears to be missing, but with landscape it fits perfectly and once you print it off all you have to do is cut the borders and it should fit nicely in the dvd case. i just use normal A4 paper for my inserts.
