  1. tried searching but couldnt find the answer to this.
    i have just received a ntsc vhs from the states which i ordered as thats all it is available on now the problem is i live in the uk so my vhs will only play pal.

    is there anway i can capture the vhs onto my hd and then convert to dvd through capture card.

    when i pop the vhs tape in its all scrambled but will it capture okay on my pc.

    any help greatly appreciated if its not possible does anyone know where in the uk i can get this converted.

    Yes, the NTSC player will play NTSC tapes. The capture card, if it sees NTSC, can convert to PAL in software.

    Do you have a power plug converted for the VCR? Our plugs are different.

  3. To answer your question, NO you won't be able to capture the tape. Putting an NTSC tape into a PAL vcr will just get you a scrambled mess as you found. Hooking that up to your PC and capturing it will mean that you will capture a scrambled mess. Doesn't matter if your card can capture NTSC or not, the vcr can't produce a useable signal from an NTSC tape.
    If you want to do it yourself you will have to acquire an NTSC vcr and the proper power adaptors I'm afraid. Paying to convert is a possiblity, but you will have to find someone willing to look the other way if it's copyrighted. Most businesses that do conversions will tell you that you're SOL on a copyrighted tape.
