  2. I'm sorry, stiltman, but I still can't seem to find anything in google that shows me how to burn DVD's in less than 1 minute. I know overburn can be done. Hacked firmware allows for full rip speeds and burning faster than rated speeds....but 15 seconds for 5gb....damn, that's 333mb/sec, which is pretty much impossible with today's mainstream pc's. Current IDE channels support UDMA 133...which is "theoretical" 133mb/s burst....hardly 333mb/s sustained. Now 2 minutes is achievable (42m/s), but drives are hardware/firmware limited to how fast they write.

Can someone explain how overclocking can increase dvd burn rates?

  3. I know he's just joking about the 15 second burn ... but if any mathmatic geeks could venture what speed DVD burner would that equate to.
    Something like dvd 300x burner? ... I don't know?
Since 5meg per second is 4x burner
2megs per second is 2x burner

What would 100 megs per second equal? That would be 45 second Burn!
So I'm guessing 300 megs per second would give the 15 second burn ... what's the burner rate
    32x
    64x
    124x ?

What's the Answer? It's a Friday Night ... GEEK TIME!

well....one time I was at a bar....and I asked a gal if she wanted to dance....she said " I don't dance with drunken idiots"....it took about 15 seconds and I guess that would be rated a classic burn.

Here's how this should have ended:

mmasw: "Excuse me, would you like to dance ?"

her: "I don't dance with drunken idiots."

mmasw: "I'm sorry, you must have misheard me. I said 'you look fat in those pants'."
    If in doubt, Google it.

Oh that's funny... I go up to 4400. If I mess up and encode over that amount (I forget audio sometimes ), I use DVDShrink.

    lol...yeah, that would have worked.

but to my everlasting shame all I managed to drool out was " uh....maybe later".....(what a friggin moron....yeah, let me go have a few more beers and I'll show you a drunken idiot!!)

I was on a real winning streak that weekend because the very next afternoon I called up a gal who I thought was 'interested' in me

I said "hi, what are you doing?"

she said " not much, I'm just sitting here reading a book"

I said " well, do you want to go out this evening, maybe have dinner, take in a movie or something?"

she said ( after a bit of a pause) "I think I'd rather read the book"

    [ooofff....bodyblow]

so to prove that the previous night's absolutely lame moronic retort was no fluke.....I said "uh....must be a good book"

after all these years, I still can't believe I was such a doofus

I stayed away from the unfairer sex for a few weeks after that weekend

I guess I could conduct a poll here to see what my response SHOULD have been.......

You should have asked whether the book was hard cover or paperback. If paperback, then your comeback could have been:

"ahh yes, a book. Spineless and full of crap. The complete opposite of me. Your loss."
    If in doubt, Google it.

  14. For the record, 1X DVD burns at 1.385MB a second, therefore 333MB a second would be 240X DVD Burner...

Now that I've switched from Princo and Ridata DVD-R to only Maxell branded, it isn't an issue.

I prefer to overburn my floppies to 6GB. I'm gonna fit the Godfather Trilogy on one

    Have fun stormin' the castle!

There are many ways to measure success. You just have to find your own yardstick.

    Hello,
Just to add my voice to this pole I burn as high as I can go. And actually, when I use dvdshrink, the old version did 16mb free for a whole disc compression (when its really big). The newest version seems to push it to just 12mb left. I don't seem to have any problems with it .
    Kevin
P.S. Sometime I'll try filling that 12mb with junk data or maybe a .zip file and see what happens when it tops out at 4.7gb!!
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?
