Is it in a digital form yet?

  3. They have some doing the coloring with Photoshop so it's scanned in. So they would email the picture then from there you put the lettering in.

Emailing the pages? That's going to have to be a pretty big email account. Each page should be several megabytes (above 10?), and they should not be using any form of compression. I should probably pass on the lettering, I'm sure I could do it, but not one of my strong points. But I'll ask around and see if I know anyone.

I might will willing to do the prepress, but would need to snail mail unless someone has an FTP that could be used. Would also depend on the content, I'm very picky about my comics and not every story deserves my skills. Would also have to be for actual out of pocket costs, since it does actually require something more than time, shouldn't be more than a handfull of dollars though (overnight shipping might cost more).

If they need some help with the color management aspects, I might be able to help there too. Everything would look best if they have some basic info about the printing press that will be used. Basic info:

screen or stochastic (FM modulated) dither/diffusion, and number of lines if screen

ICC/ICM profile for the press (unlikely), or at least the color of the primary inks CMYK typical (value in L*a*b* would be best). Can be found by measuring a typical process color test patch (C Y M R G B K and CMYblack colors.) This whole step is most challenging to get from a press operator, many don't believe they are needed, and many can't control the press well enough to bother. Gross approximations can be made, but it isn't pretty.

type of paper (semigloss, newsprint, etc.) Semigloss I have, newsprint I don't. If it is black and white, then most likely it will be on newsprint, or something very similar. Color would be on the semigloss. Newsprint=lower resolution and fewer gray shades, semigloss=higher resolution and more gray shades.

You mean like a name? Comic Book style? I can letter it.

Just a quick 3 minute whip up of "Superman".

Or are you talking about putting the text into the pages? Either way, I can do it.

Let me know what you want done and how you want it to look.

Pretty sure he means all the dialog typed into the little balloons. Not too hard if you have the font that they want too use. If it is a common font, with a good story and good art it might be worth the trouble. It really is more involved than it first appears. I have a friend that is getting a story together for publishing, I might ask him if he isn't too busy.
