Macromedia ColdFusion

I wanna learn how to use all this Macromedia stuff...I know what Flash, Dreamweaver and Fireworks does...but can anyone tell me in a simple way what Coldfusion does. I must be a retard, but I can't find a simple example of what its for. I DL the trial...wanna know what it does before installing.

I have but can't use it becasue my webhost doesn't use it (except for expensive packages)
