This leads me to the question of DVD Shrink. Do people just not know about it? Its incredibly easy to use, small, and has never given me or anyone I know who use it a problem. Why buy something when you get a perfectly good program for free?

The average computer user probably has no concept of freeware. If they want something they figure they need to go out and buy a hard copy somewhere. My guess is that these people don't even realize that its possible to copy a DVD until they see such software sitting on the store's shelf.

It depends on how long they've had a computer in their house. If, like me, they've been tied to one of the things for nearly twenty years, they will perfectly understand what freeware is and how it works. However, if they believe computer history starts and stops with Mickeysoft, they probably won't have any idea that they can get better stuff without paying for it. Even if they did know, they'd probably recoil in fear at the concept of educating themselves.
