  1. Ok, I know the rules and not one word on pirating ANYTHING ok!
Would like to form a private trading group!

But now that I do have some peoples attention on the subject,
I have found a couple places to buy the broadcast quality Beta SP tapes of a few thousand PD works, still searching for more. That's what I am wanting, old stuff that is public domain! The pro companies all selling this stuff openly say I do have the right to use it anyway I choose and even make copies to resell and/or DVDs of the stuff to mass produce and sell. This is what I want, free to use anyway I choose. I knew what all I can legally do, I just mention even the big pro companies selling the broadcast tapes say it IS legal, just for any pests wanting to harp on pirating issues, they do NOT applie!

One of my plans is to open a cheap theater and play them to the public at about $1 a ticket instead of new releases at $8 a ticket! Also Of course make DVDs to sell and other stuff from them too. Theater wise, I don't need the theater reels as I plan to burn DVDS first and project those. Also of course I will have the DVDs and maybe VHS for sale in the lobby for those that really enjoyed the old movies to buy on the way out.

At $100-$150 per episode or $350 and up for movies (or was that per hour) It's gonna get expensive fast. Anyone else got an interest and doing this wanting to sell or trade PD works I would like to talk to.

After all, if I have the right to sell them, then anyone else that has them also has that right too and also we can openly trade them also. Or make copies to trade/sell at more reasonable prices like say $50 instead of $350!
We would have to work out details how we make copies to trade and such as a group. No offense to anyone, but I do not want Newbies getting involved, at least to begin with, probably never! Since some of these PD works can be had already as LOW quality junk retail, I want only reliable people with experience that will not try to cheat anyone.

SO, if we gather a group of pros to work together on this, then say each of us buys a $350 movie, make 7 copies and resell in the group at $50 all seven of us would actually have 7 movies for a cost of say $350 (our purchase+ (6x$50)(bought copies)=$650.
A far better deal for us all than 7x $350 for a total of $2,250 for the same movies each person!
Also only a $50 risk on a movie, and we could easily boot any cheating members passing off junk if that should occure. Hopefully we are all above that!

We could all benifit quite well from this working together! Also in the long run I beleave it would actually help to increase the sales for those companies selling the broadcast tapes. I would glady buy 3 or 4 betas myself as a member of the group (for trading), whereas I am very reluctant to start buying them at that price to own just those few at that those prices. Perhaps it could actualy result in more PD works being found through increased searches which would also bennifit us all!!

To show a different movie each week would be costing at least $1500 a month for my theater if I bought each Beta SP myself. A cost I could not afford for just theater use charging just $1 a ticket!

Also, the PD works are available of course in other formats, not just Broadcast Beta. The Beta machine I was told costs about $3000 and easily had from most pro video shops. Pretty sure I was told the works could be purchased as DV along with the other formats available.

Lots of great easy ways to work a trading club of this sort for the mutual bennifit of all members. We can operate simply as a group of friends helping each other or I could even form it as a fully legal NON-profit Corp for the preservation and awareness of film/tv history and evolution
And I do mean fully legal Non-Profit Status including tax deductable contributions status. I am forming one for another group at this time with different interests.

As a group we can decide what format is best for our purpose, if we all should use betas or if another format would be better suited and still provide the best quality. We could even purchase the Betas and following a specified methode convert them for other members that do not have broadcast players available.

As you might well tell by the long post, I am serious about this and I beleave we few as a group can benifit extreamely well by heping each other!
After all, most likely we are going to end up buying the same stuff as individuals at full price randomly anyway, we might as well form a group and help each other (like the forum) instead of possibly cutting throats down the line. And of course I know of no group such as this existing, if there is one all ready, LET ME IN, LET ME IN
Seriously, if such a group does already exist I would like to know and most likely want to join up also.

Mods, if this is better suited to a different area, please feel free to move it.
Since it is concerned with source material to be used for capturing I posted it here. Thanks.

I was once offered access to a HUGE library of public domain films, most of it REALLY old stuff, some even silents. It was all in top condition, kept in a decent climate in British Columbia.

But I don't have film conversion equipment.

    That was several years ago.

  3. Yea, I don't have conversion either

Are you doing any of the broadcast beta tapes Lord Smurf? Would you be interested in the club I suggest? I save alot of my old PMs here. I'm gonna look up the name of the video hardware store you told me about before and see if they have the Beta players and the cost, and also do some searching. Being it's a holiday weekend I can't call anywhere again till monday or teusday, but this sounds promising.

I finnaly found those old commercails I wanted, the dancing cigerette packs ect.. Public Domain!! I have to call for pricing and details still, they are in volume sets on the tapes, and tons of them!

One place told me they will supply the videos in about any format, even VHS if I wanted, but due to lower quality of VHS the price is also lower. But of course I don't want VHS, would only want that if the masters are not any better than VHS to begin with, and maybe not even then either!

Also interesed in cartoons like you do, old PD stuff, bugs and the war effort etc...
Might make good shorts for my $1 theater
