  1. I know the quality of DVD is supposed to be better than SVCD.

    However, if I start with a .AVI movie is it then (in general) worthwhile to burn it in DVD format or is a SVCD CD on a TV screen practically the same?

  2. The input format is not relevant. Instead, you should look at the input image size and image quality; if they are are closest to DVD size and quailty (ie width greater than 480, crisp image without noise or artefacts), it is then worthwile to encode as DVD.
