  1. Hi,

I have a DVD that was purchased in the US in NTFS and I want to convert it to PAL so I can play it in a UK DVD player. How can I do this keeping the menu /DVD format. Is there a simple DVD ripper and frame rate converter that will do this for me.

    Thanks for your help

Changing framerates is far from simple. I haven't done it as my dvd player can play both formats. There are guides here: https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?tools=&madeby=&formatconversionselect=&howtoselect...or+List+Guides
Hopefully this will help you or at least get you started.

  3. you CAN'T convert to pal and keep the menu intact, unless you do that menu manually, with Adobe dvd encore or something similar

    you have 3 options:

    1. most european dvds play ntsc, and most tvs play ntsc, so no need for conversion.(THE BEST)
    2. convert ONLY the main movie file, I use Canopus Procoder, is by far the best.
3.get a dvd player, that does the conversion on the fly, and can be unlocked.

    have fun

Depending on the size of the disc, either burn a new copy with Decrypter and set the region to all, or if it's too big for a straight rip use DVD Shrink.
As the resulting disc will be region free, it should play on your player/tv. Almost all European equipment can play NTSC - you'd be very unlucky if yours cannot.

DVD2SVCD can do the job for you but you will have to forget the menus .
If you backup the DVD with no region protection, you will most likely be able to watch it on any standalone player.
Just for the record, it's not NTFS. It's NTSC. NTFS is a file system used by some OSs, like WinXP and 2K, whilst NTFS is a TV system used in the USA and some other countries.

Most UK dvd players will quite happly play American format disk, its the region code that causes the problem. You may be able to hack your player so its region free. Have a look in the sections on the left if not consider getting a cheap player as many of these are region free...
