Extra files in the VIDEO_TS folder

If one were to add a .txt file to the VIDEO_TS folder (kinda like a data level easter egg), would the DVD player freak out? Or does the player only look for the necessary files and skip over the unneeded stuff?

    Hello,
I'm not sure, I've never tried that. There are a couple ways to test it. Get some rewritable dvds and try it out. Also try it with a software dvd player on your computer first (though they play nonstandard dvds so it might not be a reliable test).

Also, you could always make another folder in the root directory (or the video_ts folder for that matter, I read in a post here that the drive doesn't read any sub folders ). The extra folders would be ignored by the player. Kinda like the professional dvd's that include screensavers, interactual dvdplayer, etc...

Experiement and good luck. (remember the dvd rw, don't waste discs!)

I've done this often and never had a problem.

For example, I made full blown DVDs (with menus and chapters) as backups of DV tapes and included the scenelists (.scn files) from Pinnacle Studio, to be able to edit the stuff again at any time (Studio edits MPEG2 pretty well).
I can hardly imagine anyway, what a DVD player should do else but look for the IFO files, and those list the VOBs to use. So if some extra files would disturbe it, I'd consider this really poor firmware.

    Cheers
