    Ritek recently update their website on 4th of June, looks like they've relise the "issues" with their product... and now they are shipping out new batches of 4X medias which use Azo dye(Mitsubishi) and carry media code RitekM02 (M stand for Mitsubishi?)

    If so, than it's a welcome change, wouldn't mind to buy a few to give a try.....

    Some MCC medias are now made in Taiwan because the Singapore factory gonna concerntrate on 8x and DL medias, so I wouldn't be supprised that it's made by Ritek thus be able to access the dye like what they once did with RicohJPN

    In all the time i've used the G04 Ritek media, i've never had 1 single coaster.

  3. I wonder how long it will be until the new firmwares accomodate the changes?

    By the way, neither of your links seem to work and the site blocks access to the new products pages. This isn't their 8X -R is it? I see a reference to this media code on CDfreaks in December 2003 and that can't be good if this is a new media. I also found a couple of other compatibility charts that refer to this code as 4X +R media.

  4. It's new in that we haven't seen any M02 discs. But it's pretty ancient in that this has been a known media code for a long time now and is a code that should already be supported. I've seen firmwares dating back to December of last year that already had support for this media type.

  5. According to the sourse(2nd hand source, source asked the infomation from his source in Ritek Taiwan), it is new dye to replace G04, and the mass production will start close to the end of the year, because there are still 10s of millions of G04 floating around in their warehouse.


    Tips to buy Ritek, look at the media code on the inner ring of the disk, if it's xxxxxA02xxxxxx than it's most likely to be fine, but if it's xxxxxL19xxxx, than it's their budgeted dye(sourced from major DVD+-R distributor in Taiwan.)

    Can anyone confirm this? I'd like to hear about it.

  6. I think you can get RitekM02 in the state already, even tho the quantitie is still small. I have nothing but praise with all the medias that used Azo dye so far, so I will definitely pick up a few once they become available for me.

    Also, A02 and L19 are different dye from different production line of Ritek.

    The older lines of L19 are no problem for me, because I just grab a disk that I burned a year ago and PIPO chart is still very very beautiful, it is the newer bathes of L19 that are problemic

    The above two links that Vitus provided are pdf documents, and I had to download the traditional Chinese fonts before I can read them, even though both documents are in English. I find it strange that the same RitekM02 code was used in both DVD-R and DVD+R media.

    Uh. The production process and quality control matters MUCH more than the dye used. TY, which, IMHO, trumps MCC in quality any day, doesn't use AZO.

    And I can list a lot of manufacturers that use AZO that produce horrible media (VDSPMSAB and early version of Prodisc, before they got their act together, are two that I can think of off the top of my head) and a lot of manufacturers that use "normal" dyes that produce wonderful media (Ricoh's dye and whatever TY uses comes to mind).

    Similarly, in the old cyanine-vs-phatlocyanine (sp?) debate with CD-R media, some of the best media available (TY) and some of the worst media available (LeadData) used cyanine. And some of the best media available (Kodak and Fujifilm) and some of the worst media available (CMC) used phatlo.

    Moral of the story? Don't pay attention to the dye. Pay attention to the manufacturer and their level of quality control.

    I've burned about 300 Ritek DVD-Rs with xxxxxL19xxxxxx in the last 2 months. All burns were perfect. Not one coaster. Not one of my clients have notfied me, requesting a replacement of their DVD backup.

    However, about 2 weeks ago, I did take delivery of some Ritek DVD-Rs from newegg which I believed were bad. I'm not sure if they were the L19's though. I requested a RMA for the 4 50packs and demanded a refund. They granted me the refund, which appears to go against their 'replacement only' policy.
