i have TMPGenc and know i can can convert each of my 2 divx files (700 megs) into 2 burnable DVD files. how can i convert them so they each will only take up half the DVD (so i can fit the whole movie on DVD) without a lose of quality?

shouldn't there be a way? since after all i could easily fit them as SVCDs on 2 CD-Rs....so why can't i have them both on 1 DVD with even better (or the same) quality?

well i just set the percentage of disk you want to use to 50%, instead of the full 100%. hopefully that will do it

Add the total playing times for the two files and use a bitrate calculator to work out the required bitrate you need.
Extracting the audio and converting to ac3 will allow for a much larger video bitrate (ie higher quality)
The file size of your divx files is completely irrelevant its the runtime which is important.
You would get the best quality by putting each film on a seperate dvd.

Its amazing how people want no loss of quality as each time you encode a video file you Will get a slight loss , It is how to work with the file to minimize the loss which is important.

ffmpeggui is a great tool to convert audio to ac3.

This is a good guide to work with.

Failing that you can have them as SVCD and use SVCD2DVD or SVCD2DVDMPG to create DVDs.

Post the total running time of both files and then you will get some suggestions on the settings. You should be able to get 2 1/2 hrs of great quality on a disk, and 5 hrs of good quality. It's all in the encoding method (CBR,VBR), resolution and bitrate.

  5. Join them with virtualdub, then encode with tmpgenc as 1 file.

I am assuming these are 2 halves of 1 film.

  6. Tmpegenc Express 3.0 allows you to add more than one avi file and convert them all to one Mpeg2 with the bitrate set properly to fit onto a DVDr.

wow, thats awesome to know. now, in tmpgenc xpress, will i have to tell it the bitrate (a combined answer from the 2 movies from gspot?). or can i just open the 2 files, and say fit to disc or something? sorry i havent got the program yet and wondered before i get it.

also, do you recommend i still make the audio files AC3 with v-dub? and when i do this, i will have 2 audio files. will it let me use both of them with both movies in tmpgenc xpress? (for a total of 4 files...all combined to fit on one DVD+R).

    thanks
