Using DVD-Lab, I went ahead and set up very specific chapter markers in a certain movie. Since then, I have re-encoded the same footage with more care to preserving quality. The new encode is identical in length to the original.

What I want to do is remove the original encode from the movie project and replace it with the new encode. Well, deleting the video file from the movie project results in everything disappearing. And dragging the new video over the original does not produce a replacement dialogue.

What are my options? It would be quite an extensive and wasteful project to re-do the chapter positions, especially since that particular aspect of DVD-Lab is atypically unintuitive and tedious. (No text list entry option, no way to save chapter marker data, etc.)

right-click on the Chapters bar above the movie, you will have an option to Export Chapters to a .txt file, which you can then import the same way once you have replaced the movie.

Thanks. I'll take any solution I can get, even a roundabout one.

  4. How is that a roundabout solution? It's your only one in this instance.

The "roundabout" way would be to write down with pencil and paper every chapter mark and then manually add them back in.

I'm with Andkiich - how roundabout is it to right click and export? and the fact that it saves to a .txt file, and allows you to import .txt files of chapter timings, makes this statement:
