  1. I own a JVC Digital video GR-DVL820U and I just capture about 19gig of home video into my comp. I was really amazed by this b/c this is my frist time doing this. i want to convert it to a vcd and use dvd author to burn it to a dvd. is this a good idea? approx how big will the vcd be if i convert it?
    Computer Spec:
    winxp pro, 2.4ghz, 768mb ram, 100gb

    If you are burning it to a DVD then you are creating a VCD resolution DVD. DVD has three basic resolutions: 1/4 DVD (VCD), 1/2 DVD and full DVD. If you have DV footage then it would be better to convert to 1/2 DVD resolution which is 352x480 for NTSC and 352x576 for PAL. You should be able to get 3 hours of decent quality on a DVD using a bitrate of 3000 Kbps.

    BTW, the size of your DV-AVI has nothing to do with the size of the mpeg. 19 GB is about 1 1/2 hr of DV footage.
