I use the Constant Quality (CQ) mode. I am now using a CQ of 65. What have people found as the best setting for picture quality vs file size?
Thank you.

I find that CQ gives me a better quality/compression ratio than 2-pass. I also use a different GOP structure. TMPGEnc 3.0 says that 36 max frames/GOP is also a DVD standard and results in higher compression. Otherwise the guide is excellent.Originally Posted by gshelley61
I just did a test at CQ settings of 65 and 95 and I could not see a difference in quality although the file size at 65 was much smaller. -
36 frames per GOP is well outside of the DVD standard. The max supported frames per GOP is 18 and that is the highest number that any DVD player is required to support. TMPGenc 3.0 introduced the ability to use longer than standard GOPs, and yes doing so definitely aids quality especially at lower bitrates, but at the expense of lower compatibility with DVD decoders. TMPGenc just "named" the feature for obvious reasons, you've got to have some way of identifying it. But its not a new standard, and isn't guaranteed to work on any given DVD player.Originally Posted by neo
