  1. I actually got this to work, but I need some confirmation that what I did actually is what worked. Here is my problem.

I couldn't import a movie clip into Premiere 6.0, I got an error message that said "unsupported compression". My imported video was an AVI that was compressed with divx and my audio was AC3 compression.

Through trial and error I came to the conclusion that the unsupported compression Premiere was refering to was my Audio (AC3) and not my video. I downloaded VirtualDub(to use instead of Premiere) and was informed to install "AC3-ACM Decompression". After installing AC3-ACM I noticed that the video I couldn't import into Premiere...was now able to be imported into Premiere.

Is this AC3-ACM allowing Premiere to recognize AC3 compressed audio. I sure I just answered my own question, but please enlighten me as to how this works and if I should download any other codecs/decompression programs to use with premiere and avoid future problems.

I believe that installing the AC3-ACM solved your problem (like you stated). At first your computer couldn't understand that format correctly. Then after you insalled the decompressor it could recognize and read that format. That's how it works with codecs as well. No codec for video format = computer confused and error messages. Correct codec installed = play fine and no more error messages.
