Got a question about this one. When encoding with CCE-SP, one has the option of choosing a luminance range of 16 to 235, or 0 to 255. 16 to 235 is the default, and the various guides I've seen all say to leave it at that.
Well, I doubt I understand the situation properly, but it seems to me that forcing the luminance range to limit itself to a non-optimal range would be counter-productive to the final image, by way of reducing potential contrast. And the result on the TV would be that the darkest black would in fact be basically a dark gray, essentially defeating the purpose.
Is there a point to enforcing this limitation? (Let's assume I've captured DV via firewire, which I have.) Thanks.
