Sure!anyone know of another device or company that makes a product like this?
The origional one-and-only IBM-PC (the one with 16K of RAM on board and an 8088 CPU) didn't even have a floppy drive upon release (much less a hard drive - never did till the IBM-XT came out with a 5M monster). It was able to accept any cassett drive with an IO connection - and almost all of 'em did back then.
It was the ONLY was to load the OS and programs!
Of course, it cost about $3000 (more or less), so this thing is a real BARGAN!

well, if you have hundreds of tapes to archive, the included software has some features to automate capturing and indexing tracks. plus digital connections so it's digitizing at the tape heads and not at the sound-card input.Originally Posted by VCDHunter
for me, it's no good since most of the stuff I want to archive is 4-track masters from old bands...- housepig

Do they have that in 8 track?
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
My Vic20 had an external cassette drive in a stylish cream coloured plastic enclosure.
We'll have vertical turntables to replace case side panels next.
Note to self - Actually that's not a bad idea .

Vic20 ruled. My big technological breakthroug was in 1986 or 87, when i bought a computer like this: http://www.nvg.ntnu.no/sinclair/computers/zxspectrum/gallery/images/specplus2_boxed.jpg
The ones i had before that was all external casette player. The +2 ruled! I still got it on the top of the closet, must be worth $150 as well? Just for the tape-deck?

Too bad it's $150........I might have bought one for the comedy alone.
Seriously, I wish someone would make a tape drive that would work as a typical tape drive, but also read mini-DV or Digital 8 tapes directly without having to "capture" them via firewire. Yeah, I know, it's all digital, but it seems like a 50/50 proposition for the camera to get recognized. Plus, if you have kids under 12, the camera will get knocked onto the floor at least once per capture. -
There's a little novelty if you have an extra buck-fifty to blow, eh? I went and transferred some multi-cassette unabridged audio books to MP3's to play on my CD/MP3 portable and in my car. But I just connected a standard deck to my soundcard's line-in. Is that how that thing gets routed (looking at the accessories included)? Actually, I quite like the idea of an internal drive that could play MiniDV or Digital8 directly (and maybe double as a backup device?).
Actually, here's something else I wouldn't mind getting for my PC:
Like a flea circus at a dog show!
