So, I'm capturing mpeg-2 video from a TV capture card.
If I simply burn a captured mpeg file to an ISO DVD, here is what I observe:
1. The audio is CLEAR AND in apparently PERFECT SYNC
2. The images are jerky and ghosting
So, I did the following to fix the image problem:
1. Demux using PVAStrumento, (which by the way reports all kinds of synchronization problems that I could not observe with my original, either on a stand alone player or on my PC)
2. Change the video field order using Restream
3. Recombine both using TMPGenc DVD author.
RESULT: Video is perfect, but PVSstrumento removed many audio and video frames from my MPEG which had apparently prefect audio/video sync originally. It's terrible. The video is smooth, but it's very obvious that audio and video frames are missing.
Assuming PVAstrumento was the problem, I used TMPGENC demux to do a simple demux, followed by Restream to fix the field order. TMPGENC DVD author again and now nothing is missing, the video is good, but the audio gets progressively out of sync.
MY CONCLUSION: I have to change the field order, but if I demux my MPEG files in order to accomplish this, I'm screwed. Is there anyhting out there that can change the field order without demuxing?

Strange problem. You are not changing the audio or the video, it doesnt make sense it should cause desync. Tmpgenc must be removing something too then, same as pvstrumento? I would give pulldown.exe a try anyway.
Sorry havent heard about anything that can do this on a muxed file. -
I realize this doesn't help you with the current capture but I'm guessing there is a way to change the field order in your capture software so you can at least avoid this happening again in the future.

Might want to give that a try. There is a DEMO version you can try.
However the program ain't cheap ... I think it is $150 US Dollars.

I have been trying EVERTYTHING to get the mainconcept capture module to function. The results are much better than the other mpeg capture systems I have tried (I have an advc55 so I am trying to find a software Mpeg captrue). I like it allot and the captures come out very nice, BUT
1. It freezes too often on the capture.
2. The audio tends to get out of sync.
Real drag as I say, I like it allot....

It's a crying shame NOT to do your DV AVI capture with that device.
Just capture DV AVI and then convert to MPEG.
It will be easier to edit your capture ... you can apply filters to clean up the image and/or sound ... and perhaps most importantly for you ... no A/V sync issues!
Makes no sense to use a Canopus ADVC-55 to capture direct-to-MPEG

Sorry, I posted a response to the original question. I have a 55 but not sure what the original poster has.
The main issues I have with going to AVI first are:
1. LOTS O' Data, I just spent a bunch of money on the capture device and a tbc and a new HD is not in my near future! (I have enough to get by however so this is a minor issue, actually really not an issue I think as I haev a spare 30gb drive).
2. Time: I am trying to opimize my time. The point of my trying this is to archive a BUNCH of VHS tapes and it seems to capture, convert to mpeg, translate to DVD format and shrink to fit via dvdshrink is VERY time consuming.
With regard to #2, Sonic mydvd has a feature which captures, encodes and cuts to the HD a DVD image. Then I just use DVD shrink to burn it. Problem is the quality is not real good.... mainconcept supposedly can do mpeg on teh fly, but it chokes quite a bit on me and thus my orignal response
Any suggestion on how to speed up the process would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Bob
