I downloaded a clip and problem here is that the timeline(not sure if it's correct term??) is not adjustable. I would like to move straight to the middle of the movie or something but it's not possible. Whenever I drag the piece it moves back to the beginning. Weird? How do I fix that? Is there some software to fix such problems in videos/movie files?

I tried playing in Windows Media Player, Real One Player but to no avail.

    Thanks in advance ppls

What kind of file? AVI. DIVX, MPG, etc.? When you can't seek in a video, it usually means there is a error in the video file. You can usually correct this with the proper program for repairing that file.

Try using a different player like Media Player Classic or even a DVD player like Power DVD.

When I used Power DVD to play it, it hangs and i had to shut it down using ctrl-alt-del.
I believe something's wrong with the file and I'm hoping there's a program to fix it? any video fixer?
    btw, the file is wmv.

WMV 'seeking' problems. Go to the 'Tools' section on the left, look under 'Video repair/fix' for WMV repair programs. Try one of those listed for WMV and see if they can help.

My bad. I assumed it was mpeg. Try redwudz' advice. WMV's are not easily fixed so there's no guarantee it will work.
