I have just bought 25 Bulkpaq orange DVD-R discs and am having problems with them.

When i go into explorer after putting one into my Pioneer DVD RW it comes up as a 'audio disc' and it appears to have a small 44kb Winamp file on the disc??? these discs are supposed to be totally blank and brand new and were still shrink wrapped.

My Samsung DVD Rom doesn't read anything on the disc which is strange butthe Pioneer reads this same file on each disc, when double clicking on it it starts Winamp playing as well so it obviously is there.

Does anybody have any idea what the hell it is? as every disc I try to burn is coming through as a coaster with this file on.

As i said earlier theses were shrink wrapped brand new.

    Thanks for any help.

A DVD-R blank isn't supposed to have anything on it. It should error if you try to read it.

It sounds like you bought 25 coasters. If they are already written to, they'll probably error out when you try to write to them :P

Try to get your money back!

This is normal. Blank DVD disks read as 44kb CDDA files on my computer.
It depends on how you have your file extensions associated. There is nothing wrong with your blank DVD disks.

And it's just a coincidence that they're all turning out as coasters?

Where do you see that piece of info?

  6. I have a Plextor 40x SCSI drive that when a disc is read in ISOBuster with SPTI it shows some crazy shit on the disc. The author of ISOBuster told me it was a known problem when i emailed him. "This drive uses a different strategy than most" i think he said.

When i switch to ASPI instead of SPTI it reads relatively normal.

    Is your ASPI install OK?

Is it possible that your Pioneer DVD R/W doesn't like the media and is reading them incorrectly? Did you check if the media is compatible in the "DVD Writers" section?

Do you know anyone else with a different brand DVD Writer that you could try the media in?

    Thanks for all your replies.

I have used these type discs before with my writer so I know they are compatible.

I have been trying to copy a DVD and have used DVD Decryptor and DVD2ONE with no joy, I have tried to use DVD Shrink and it always faults out when attempting to burn. So the betting suggests these discs although interesting to hear that these CDA files are common on the discs, as on a pile of CD-R discs i have there is nothing on them.

I swear I looked for that in that post. Guess I'm the one who didn't read closely enough.

When you click on the file on the blank disk Winamp starts because you have the cdda file extention asscoiated with Winamp,do you hear any music. It's a "dummy" file that Windows is reading,it doesnot exist.
If your getting coasters it's your burning method and the DVD player your using. For example if you burn DVD's in UDF/ISO mode they won't play on older DVD players but they will work on newer players that have more forgiving firmware. It could be bad media but more likely your burning method. Do you have a VIDEO_TS directory?
Download CloneDVD,it'sa compression program but has it's burning module. try burning with it.

It happens to the best of us Especially with long posts. I tend to skim those myself. Not that killiefan's was a long post, but it becomes a habit.
