  1. This is my first post guys, so go easy on me. I've just bought an Adaptec DVDOH! Media Center to transfer my VHS files to DVD. The supplied software is a bit dodgy (Sonic DVD), but does work, and I have transferred quite a few of my old VHS tapes to DVD. I have a problem however. I have a huge collection of tapes dating back 20 years or so, and I am searching through the tapes for things I want to keep. I use Fast Forward, but after a few seconds the Sonic software gets confused and the preview screen goes blank and is difficult to get back. Usually I have to restart the software, but sometimes it locks up my PC, and I have to reboot! The WInTV software (Which you use to watch TV) does the same thing when I select the Video as the input source. They work perfectly for watching and capturing, but don't like it when you Fast Forward, particularly on older tapes, which I suppose is because the signal is slightly weaker. Is there any other software I can use to view my tapes at any speed? The problem is amplified by the fact that this particular Adaptec MPEG capture device doesn't seem to get detected by many programs, such as NERO. Any advice welcome.

That's an interesting question. The best suggestion I can offer is to cue up your tape before you start capping. You're likely to have this problem no matter what software you use. Don't just take my word for it though. Maybe someone else can add more here. By the way, welcome to the forum.

Pinnacle DC10+ and Pinnacle Studio 7 does the same thing.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I fast forward with the ATI preview all the time.
I would simply go through the list of all the freeware capture
programs and see if one works.
..or get a TV hooked up to the VCR
