Does it play on your computer?
You have to try things a few times. Just because it didn't play doesn't mean it won't play if you try again."Whenever I need to "get away,'' I just get away in my mind. Yes, you've missed a lot. Without telling you, Nero (tries to) author your mpg to VCD, then burns it. But as (various versions of) Nero sux when it comes to authoring, it's better to leave this task to applications that can perform this step reliably.Hey Mats, if I had that video I'd just open NERO choose VCD and burn. Why author? Maybe I'm missing something.

Did you ever try to just press play??????Originally Posted by Beyonder

Bacuse some versions of Nero is broken when it comes to creating VCD, specially if you try to create a menu. You might try the Nero route if you disable menu.So do you know why my initial method didnt work??
But I can't understand why so many insist on using Nero for everything?!? There are better apps for almost anything it does. It's not that horrible to use different tools for different tasks, is it? The Swiss Army Knife approach is never the best.

What's on your TV screen is a nero generated menu.
Notice the "generated by NERO" text.
Depending on the options you selected in Nero, pressing play, or the number 1 on the remote will play the clip. IF the version of Nero you have happens to work correctly.
Older (5.0xxxx) versions of Nero worked well for VCD, but not anything else. Not sure about the "Ultra" version.
Your first attempt failed, because you attempted to use Nero. As mats has pointed out, Nero doesn't do much correctly.
VCDEasy would most likely be your best bet. Drag the mpg to VCDEasy, author, then burn.
If your stuck along the way, don't forget to RTFM. -
But Mats, I've burned lots of vcd's with Nero and it won't try to author them if the file is the correct format. Maybe this time there was a stuff up and it doesn' work. Do another burn and see what happens (use a RW)Originally Posted by mats.hogberg"Whenever I need to "get away,'' I just get away in my mind. I think you're confusing authoring with encoding. They are two separate completely unrelated tasks (and should therefore be carried out with different tools). A VCD has to be authored, just like a DVD. You provide the authoring app with a suitably encoded mpg, which gets authored to a format (VCD, SVCD or DVD in this world). This involves building dierctory structures, making ifos and stuff (if it's a dvd) and many other tasks.I've burned lots of vcd's with Nero and it won't try to author them if the file is the correct format.
This is carried out (just as when encoding) to meet specifications of the target format, and can be done more (VCDEasy) or less (Nero) successfully.

mats,
So for the final time, i create the bin/cue with vcd easy.
Then i go into nero and burn the bin/cue onto a cd???
Is that correct??
was wondering would anyone like to tell me what the bin/cue is or what authoring does??
Does it matter what kind os cd it is? cd-r or rw etc etc -
Yes!!!Originally Posted by Beyonder

If you take a look under WHAT IS top left and look up what constitutes a VCD, and compare that to the mpg file you feed into the authoring app, you get what authoring does.
Not at all - if your player can read them. -RW is more DVD player compatible than -R if anything.Does it matter what kind os cd it is? cd-r or rw etc etc

"I see," said the blind man, as he pissed into the fan, "it's all coming back to me now". Gotcha.Originally Posted by mats.hogberg"Whenever I need to "get away,'' I just get away in my mind.
