  1. Hey all, im trying to capture in Win2k using Pinnacle Studio PCTVpro and VirtualDUB. First off, i cant capture in overlay mode, as i get the following error:

Error 424: Error: Cannot open the video input device.

If i turn overlay off, and switch to preview mode, i can capture, but it looks like its capturing only even scan lines or something ... as at 640x480 it looks like 320x240 scaled up to 640x480.

  2. I believe you have to go to the ATI site and get the drivers that include Video For WIndows. The drivers are still supported, but not delivered.

VirtualDub requires the Video for Windows drivers.

first of all Windows 2000 donīt supports video for Windows
    standards.

second the PCTV cards hardware can only capture in an resolution of 320x240.

if you want to capture with an bigger screen size try the Studio DC10+ card

About capturing on a higher resolution,It's possible,And I do Sometimes(most times I capture at 352X240 to make VCDs).But to capture higher resolution, you have to go to preview mode and "hide" the capture window.
But That's in Windows 9x,I think that you'll really have problems with win2k...

  5. I would strongly disagree with the statement that PCTV family could capture only 320x240.
I have the cheapest card from this family (Rave) and it is capable of capture full PAL video using WDM drivers.
On my previous machine (W98, VFW drivers) I had problem capturing video for VCD (the lines effect), so I captured in 352x576 and, in parallel, used 2:1 linear filter, which gave me a perfect picture with no artifacts (for this resolution, however).
If you want to capture in higher resolutions, you should switch off preview at all and then capture. It will work perfectly.

ok Rookie, do you work for Pinnacle??
Do you know what the hardware specifications are of the Pinnacle cards??
do you even know what software video codec and hardware video codec is??

if so then my boss at Pinnacle hired the wrong person.
if you know everything then explain to everybody what hapens when you leave the tv card into the system when Windows is installed!!

this is an challenge for you

PS explain even what an irq sharing between the graphics card and the PCTV card does to the images that are shown with the Vision sogftware and video capture programs.

PatMar, in a number of Forum Posts regarding the PCTV card you have been stating that the card can't capture higher than 320x240.
I may not be able to answer any of your questions in your posting above, but I do know that I can capture a 2 hour DVD at 704x576 (PAL) with zero dropped frames using Win98SE, AVI_IO and PICVideo codec. Both the preview and overlay settings in AVI_IO have to be turned off to achieve this.
