  1. Hi,

I have a VideoCD that plays fine on DVD player. But I cannot copy dat-file to my HDD because of read problem in the middle of the file. On the other hand I can skip this problematic part with my player (BPlayer).

Is there any tool I can use to cut this file in two, skipping the bed part? TMpeg is no good since it tries to check the file integrity for the second part.

    Thanks!

  2. I think you can use VCDGear to grab the file and "fix" (at least as best it can) the part that can't be read.

Just point VCDGear to the dat file and have it save the mpeg file on the hard disk and use "dat -> Mpeg" conversion in the conversion menu.

ok, now i'm ready to report the results - it didn't help. (((

basically, it copied the file (it took more than 2 hours), but the file itself was no good, especially after the point of problem and CD. TMpeg even said that there's nothing in this file but audio and only up to the point of problem.

so the question remains the same - how can i fix this file?

    Thanks.

    lazy,

    if its an actual scratch...

Have you tried one of those 'disc doctors' available just about anywhere that cd/vcd/dvd/games are sold? They claim to work wonders but I've never used one myself. You puti in the disc, some have you squirt some solution, turn a crank or press a button to spin it...and viola!!! Your disc is now back to its original luster! I may have mixed a couple of commercials up but the premise is still true.

If its rented, just bring it back and get another one. Just say that it freezes every time you get to a scene. Most rental places should be happy to simply let you pick out the same movie, and some will let you chose a different one. Though, I'd think this to be a 1 or 2 time benefit...

  5. Also try creating an image file of the cd using CloneCD with it's error correction turned on, then use VCDGear to extract the MPEG stream.

well, actually it's a real scratch - it's just a "bad sector" or something like that. the surface of cd is perfectly fine, but still i've got a reading problem. and it's not a movie i can just go and borrow - it's forein and pretty rare. my cd and the one i copied it from are the only known sorces around. and they have the same problem.

that's why i'm trying to save the file i alredy have.

to Shabubu: i really doubt that VcdGear would do something more from image than from cd itself, but i'm certainly going to try - thanks for hint.

  7. ok, i've get results, if anybody else is still interested in that.

i got the image of cd with Nero (turn off "abort writing after read error" and "on fly" in cd-copy mode) and feed it to vcdgear. surprisingly it didn't get it as nero-image-file, but it worked out as "raw" one.

after that i had to run vcdgear for the second time to repair resultin mpeg.

and now everything is just fine. thank all of you, guys.
