  1. Hi people,

I am trying to make an svcd out of a 1 and a half hour film, I have resigned myself (unless you know different) to 3 half hour segments on a 700 mb cd. Here are the particulars
    1. Movie is in avi (xvid) format around 732 mb at 640-352 done in widescreen.
    2. Tools I have are Power Director, tmpeg 2.5, dvdit and ulead movie factory 3.0.

The problems I am having are
    1. TMPEG, When making the 1/2 hour segment in dvd ntsc format the resulting audio and video file are larger than 700 mb's even for a 30 minute segment, I don't get this at all and I must be doing something wrong, the settings I have used are 2pass vbr at a reduced bitrate of 2000 and I have tried a cbr at 2000 and it is still too big.
When I use the svcd ntsc setting I can get the file size down (why I do not know) but the resulting file does not produce an audio file as well nor is sound embedded in the mpg.
    2. Ulead and Power Director - I can get a file and burn it no problem except I cannot get the proper aspect ratio in widescreen, I cannot find any settings that will effect tha aspect ratio and not get the video to be stretched horizontally.

Questions are obvious. I am assuming that this is my fault because obviously thousands of people around the world use these tools with success.

I want to simply make svcd'd out of this movie, using 2 at 45 minutes or 3 at 30 minutes. The movie is widescreen and in avi format. With the tools I have is this possible (of course it is) and what can you tell from my long winded description am I doing wrong

    Thanks lots

  2. The files are larger because on a VCD the data is written without error protection or something, meaning you can fit more than 700MB on a CD-R. Go by what TMPGEnc tells you in the second-to-final part of the wizard with the bar showing space usage. If TMPGEnc says it will fit, then it will. I usually go for 98% of disc capacity, so I leave a tiny bit spare.

This is a guide to what you are trying to do: https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgencsvcd.htm

The reason your filesize dropped when you changed the output format is because you probably dropped the framerate. Less frames encoded = less space used in data.

Follow this guide, ignore the extra filesize and author the SVCD. It will work fine.

    Hope this helps,

    Cobra

  3. It does help, thanks for that, but I still have a few questions,
I am not getting audio from my mpg at the settings the guide has for svcd. I get to the end of the wizard and it only wants to make 1 file, an mpg, the audio file is supposed to be embedded in the mpg but it is not and when I produce in tmpeg in dvd settings, it produces an audio file (wav) that is 300k but has no actual sound in it. Sound familiar to anyone.

Also does anyone know whether power dirctor or ulead movie factory 3 allow a widescreen movie not be stretched in aspect ratio..
