  1. First off, before anyone says anything, Ive read just about every article on converting DivX/XviD to DVD offered at this site and a few other sites. I've followed the instructions exactly as stated in each guide I've used (which seem too be different from guide to guide). The problem I'm having is when i convert a DivX/Xvid video to an NTSC compliant DVD video using TMPGEnc, the video seems to very slightly skip every few moments. It goes through this pattern of smooth to slight skipping back to smooth throughout the entire film and it gets quite annoying. The DivX file in this example is a DVD rip, and its been encoded at 23.976 fps (the NTSC film standard i believe.) I searched the forums for answers to my prob, and I found a few related posts, but nothing seemed to really work. Below are pics of the settings I used to convert the DivX file. Any help would be much appreciated.

  2. not 100 percent sure, but you may want to use mp3 vdub to scan for bad frames before converting. Also, the playback on computer is not necessarily an accurate representation of what the DVD will be like (assuming your talking about playback of the mpg2 file on your pc), ive had several strange problems like that didnt exist during playback once i burned and played them on a standalone player. If you have a DVD RW i would suggest authoring your video on that to see if there really is a problem.

  3. actually i just tested the video on my standalone DVD player and I still get the stuttering. I haven't tried mp3 vdub yet but i will as soon as i can. I do have a bad feeling however that the problem isnt due to errors in the video because i get the stuttering in every 23.976 fps movie ive encoded. I will try mp3 vdub however, thanks for the help.

  4. Which DVD Authoring Program did you use? Try another Authoring Program. I would suggest Tmpgenc DVD Author.

Try using "Top Field First" for the field order.

Does the encoded MPG2 play OK on your PC? If so I would say it's the media you are using. I used to have this skipping problem a lot, but since using Riteks, I've been fine.

    Hope it helps

  7. hey guys thanks for all these replies, its really a great help. To answer your questions 1) I've used both Adobe Encore and TMPGEnc DVD Author to author my DVD's and I get the skipping problem with both 2) I haven't used "Top Field First" for field order, I'll try that ASAP and 3) the MPG2 file actually stutters on my PC as well, so I'm pretty sure the problem is due to the encoding process, rather than authoring or the media I'm using. Does anyone know if using different settings for "DC component precision" and "Motion Search Precision" would help my problem at all?? Anyways thanks again for the replies, and keep them coming.

I thas been my experience that "certain" divx files stutter and go out of synch with TMPGEnc. i use MainConcept for those flicks and it fixed the problem or you could frameserve form VirtualDub to TMPGEnc to alleviate the problem also.
