Help with my brand new burner

I just got my first dvd burner - LG 4081B. I installed it myself and it seems to work fuine - i can watch dvds on it, it reads cds, and it even burns to cd-r, BUT for some reason it cant recognize the blank dvd media i put in it! I tried the vibartim DVD+R digital movie discs, and they didnt work, so i went and got a sony DVD-RW, which didnt work either
The drive is supposed to support all formats of dvd media!
-Am i missing something? I even used the firmware upgrade - still no help

any ideas???

Good question. The specs on that burner seem to suggest it'll read and write coffee-can lids

Maybe you've found the media it doesn't like, but I doubt it. If you have a laser lens cleaner try using that just in case some dust got stirred up inside. If that doesn't work, try reinstalling the latest firmware for it.

If I try to run the firmware upgrade again, it wont ruin my burner?

Is there any kind of settings or formatting that I am missng?

you can update as many times as you want.....
but, it looks like the burner is fucked up....if you have problems with verbatim and sony.........that is a drive problem.....
i really doubt there is any setting problem, at least it should read the media
take it back, and get something else....nec or pioneer

What app are you using to burn with? If its Nero then im guessing u have it locked onto cd and not dvd.

Thanks! That finally worked for me ... but only in Nero. Im using DVD-Cloner to try to back-up dvd's and once again neither media that i have will work.
i'm going to keep playing with it until i can make some sense of it.
